DIRECTOR MCNAIR SCHOLARS PROGRAM

BASIC FUNCTION
To direct and manage the McNair Scholars Program which offers programs and services intended to increase the attainment of doctoral degrees by low-income undergraduates and those from groups underrepresented in doctoral study. Provide support to the Social and Opinion Research Lab or similar social science research activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES.
- Plan implement administer coordinate monitor and evaluate the various activities functions and services of the McNair Scholars Program including operating policies and procedures. Develop modify and evaluate program goals objectives services activities and policies in accordance with student needs institutional objectives and resources and funding agency requirements.
- Develop and administer the program operating budget.
- Perform a variety of key research and planning tasks associated with the program typically involving developing program goals implementing plans for those goals writing grant proposals designing educational and counseling programs for summer and academic year components and developing standards and procedures for identifying recruiting and selecting eligible students.
- Supervise the monitoring of academic progress of students through regular contact with participants and faculty mentors assessment tools and academic counseling.
- Supervise and implement a variety of on-going administrative tasks associated with program such as designing and maintaining appropriate records systems preparing reports on program activities and status for funding agency and designing and implementing appropriate program and staff evaluation processes to ensure compliance with funding agency requirements.
- Compile and disseminate information to the campus and the public regarding program services. Write/edit various other educational and information materials.
- Supervise and implement the summer program including recruiting faculty mentors matching summer research and internship opportunities with program participants establishing the summer schedule and activities approving travel for campus visits conference and symposia meetings making arrangements for use of residence halls dining halls and other campus facilities.
- Contribute to and supervise preparation of all program materials including participant handbook program application web presence and the like.
- Oversee the academic year and summer programs including securing staff participant and faculty mentor participation coordinating activities delivering orientation programs monitoring research projects and internships and serving as a liaison with on-campus and off-campus stakeholders.
- Provide assistance and guidance to participants throughout the graduate school application and financial aid application process. Approve college visits and provide transportation if needed.
- Confer regularly with supervisor and other University personnel to plan coordinate and evaluate programs/services/activities investigate and resolve problems exchange information and the like.
- Attend relevant local regional and national professional meetings.
- Serve as principal program liaison with a wide range of individuals and organizations inside and outside the University including funding agencies other state and regional program directors relevant professional organizations and the like.
- Provide support to the Social and Opinion Research Lab or similar social science research activities and serve on related committees.
- Serve as a consultant on Institutional Research projects for the University.
- Teach up to nine credits per year as assigned by the Academic Dean.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISON RECEIVED
General direction and supervision is received from the Director of Academic Services.
SUPERVISON EXERCISED
Administrative and functional supervision of 1 3 employees and 1 3 graduate or
undergraduate assistants.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in a STEM field liberal arts or other appropriate discipline plus three to five years of relevant counseling teaching or administrative experience or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
- Strong base of general knowledge and skills relevant to the program such as counseling
- educational program design implementation and evaluation understanding of postsecondary opportunities and admission policies/processes and the like.
- Direct experience working with the programs targeted constituency desirable.
- Excellent planning administrative organizational supervisory and budget management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to deal effectively with and serve as a principal program representative to students funding agencies and the like as well as various University personnel requiring skills in coordinating collaborating counseling public relations and public presentation.

Compensation: The budgeted compensation for this position is $65000 - $ position is contingent on receipt of continued funding from external sources.
