Reporting to the Administrative Officer this position performs duties related to a variety of accounting functions in a minimum custody male correctional facility. Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Maintaining control and accountability of the offender banking system writing checks and daily bank deposits.
  2. Processing accounting actions for offender welfare expenditures.
  3. Processing weekly offender money orders and requesting and monitoring service club balances.
  4. Maintaining control and accountability of the offender canteen system including monthly Canteen Reports.
  5. Researching and responding to offender grievances.
  6. Communicating and working well with staff at all levels the general public and the offender population.
  7. Serving as back up in the Accounting department and will be cross-trained in accounts payable and receivable in NCFS and NC E-Procurement.

The salary grade for this position is NC02(Salary Range: $31200 -$49340). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as or lower than their current position. If selected for this position a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience funding availability and internal equity. Based upon these factors a pay increase MAY result.
About Wake Correctional Center:
Wake Correctional Center in Raleigh is a minimum-security prison for adult males. It is primarily a work unit in that 80 percent of the offenders leave the facility each day for incentive wage work assignments in various state agencies in the Wake County area. Offenders also work at other area adult correctional-facilities and Correction Enterprises operations. There are also offenders nearing their release date that participate on the work release program leaving the facility to work for businesses in the community. Incentive wage work assignments are also available at the prison in the food service clothes house janitorial landscaping maintenance canteen and recreation areas.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Effective July 1 2025 candidates now must meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the Minimum Education and Experience listed from the OSHR class specification as seen in the next section below. The Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) listed here in this section are now to be used as Management Preferencesand to be used to screen for the MOST QUALIFIED pool of applicants.
Management Preferences
  1. Documented knowledge of general accounting.
  2. Documented working knowledge using Microsoft Excel.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
