Job Summary

POSITION PURPOSEThe Staff Accountant supports the financial operations by performing advanced accountingreconciliation reporting and compliance functions. This position maintains the districts generalledger prepares accurate financial reports assists with grant and payroll verification supportsaudit preparation and ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles(GAAP) governmental accounting standards and district policies. The Staff Accountant alsoserves as a backup to both the Payroll Coordinator and the Financial Coordinator to ensurecontinuity of business office FUNCTIONS Administer and oversee the districts accounting system including maintenance of thegeneral ledger. Record and post receipts deposits and revenues with supporting documentation into thefund accounting system. Prepare financial reports including trial balances fund balances expenditure reportsencumbrance reports and detailed activity reports. Verify and post bi-weekly payroll; serve as backup to the Payroll Coordinator as needed. Assist in managing federal and state grants including monitoring expenditures andpreparing required financial reports for the Department of Education. Serve as a confidential employee compiling wage salary and benefit data as needed forcollective bargaining negotiations. Oversee the Student Activity accounts for Middle and High School including monthlyreconciliation with the Treasurer. Collaborate with external auditors provide documentation assist with complete year-endclosings and prepare audit-related reports. Develop and implement cross-training programs for business office support staff. Oversee the preparation of required supplemental financial reports for the School LunchProgram. Complete and submit Excess & Deficiency reports for annual certification. Complete and submit the End-of-Year Report (EOYR). Post month-end journal entries including internal transfers. Recommend and implement improvements in fiscal procedures. Reconcile complex financial transactions and accounts. Calculate and prepare vouchers for monthly meals tax. Record all budget journal entries. Serve as backup to the Payroll Coordinator and the Financial Coordinator to ensurecoverage of key financial functions. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance & ENVIRONMENTTo perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential dutysatisfactorily. Equivalentcombination of related education and experience which includes working within publicschools Must have a strong attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projectssimultaneouslyKNOWLEDGE ABILITY AND SKILLS Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field. Ability tocommunicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to performduties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructional in mathematical ordiagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journalstechnical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports businesscorrespondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information andrespond to questions from groups of managers clients customers and the general to direct all forward planning reports and presentation for district budgets.
