Job Description
* NO PER DIEM! *
Minimum 5 years of experience in welding processes.
All applicants will be tested.
Hiring for day and night shift.
The Sub Arc Welder is responsible for fabricating and assembling headers by operating submerged arc welding (SAW) equipment. This role involves setting up and adjusting welding machines positioning and aligning heavy materials with the aid of cranes and performing precision welds in compliance with ASME standards and detailed blueprints. The welder will also prepare and finish welds using grinders preheat or gouge materials as needed and ensure all work meets strict quality accuracy and safety requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set up operate and maintain submerged arc welding (SAW) equipment for header fabrication.
- Position clamp and align materials using overhead or jib cranes.
- Load electrode wire reels and properly thread wire through feed rolls and welding heads.
- Adjust welding head angles current voltage and feed rates to meet job specifications.
- Perform layout fitting and tack welding of workpieces in preparation for final weld.
- Preheat materials using torches or furnaces as required.
- Operate pneumatic and electric grinders to prepare and finish welds.
- Perform carbon arc gouging for metal removal preparation or repairs.
- Conduct visual inspections of welds to ensure compliance with blueprints welding symbols and quality standards.
- Use levels squares and measuring tools to confirm accuracy alignment and proper tolerances.
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean organized work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support business operations
SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on welding skills.
- Ability to work with precision and attention to detail to meet strict quality standards.
- Good problem-solving skills for adjusting machines identifying defects and making repairs.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with leads supervisors and team members.
- Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to workplace safety and proper handling of heavy materials and equipment.
- Dependability and teamwork with the ability to also work independently when required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Significant and sustained periods of standing walking bending squatting and lifting.
- Ability to stand crouch and kneel for extended periods while working on piping systems.
- Frequently engage in movement and balance activities including reaching twisting climbing and transitioning between worksites.
- Must have good manual dexterity to perform precision adjustments of machinery parts and controls.
- Will use arms and hands to signal grab hold turn push and pull objects materials controls and tools.
- May be required to lift carry and move up to 50lbs.
- Will use vision abilities to focus see short and long distances colors depth perception and peripheral vision.
- Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat cold rain snow and wind; and must be able to work for long periods of time up to 12 hours a day.
- Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to safety glasses steel-toe boots and fire-retardant clothes.
