Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator DBA with strong hands on expertise in Oracle to PostgreSQL database migrations The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in Oracle and PostgreSQL database administration and be capable of executing migration projects with minimal supervision This role requires a mix of DBA scripting and problem solving skills along with a strong understanding of data integrity performance tuning and cloud database best practicesKey ResponsibilitiesPlan and execute database migration projects from Oracle to PostgreSQL on prem or cloudPerform detailed assessments of Oracle schemas PL SQL code stored procedures and triggers for migration feasibilityUse tools like ora2pg AWS DMS or custom scripts to facilitate smooth migrationConvert PL SQL code to equivalent PL pgSQL or compatible PostgreSQL syntaxOptimize and tune PostgreSQL databases post migration for performance and scalabilityEnsure data integrity accuracy and performance during and after the migrationMonitor and maintain the PostgreSQL and Oracle environments as requiredAutomate tasks related to migration monitoring and maintenance using scripting Shell Python etcWork closely with application data and DevOps teams to ensure minimal downtime and successful deploymentRequired Skills and Qualifications2 6 years of experience as a DBA with at least 1 2 years of hands on experience in Oracle to PostgreSQL migrationStrong working knowledge of Oracle 12c 19c and PostgreSQL 9 x and aboveExperience with ora2pg SQL Developer AWS Schema Conversion Tool or other database migration utilitiesSolid understanding of SQL PL SQL and PL pgSQL development and conversion techniquesProficiency in performance tuning indexing and query optimizationHands on experience in backup recovery user management and security administrationFamiliarity with Linux Unix environments and shell scriptingPreferred SkillsExperience with cloud database services AWS RDS Aurora PostgreSQL Azure Database for PostgreSQLUnderstanding of database replication and high availability e g streaming replication logical replicationExposure to DevOps and CI CD pipelines involving database deploymentsExperience with data validation and reconciliation post migrationKnowledge of other database platforms MySQL SQL Server MongoDB is a plusCertification in Oracle PostgreSQL is an advantageSoft SkillsStrong analytical and problem solving skillsGood communication and documentation abilitiesAbility to work independently and collaborate in cross functional teamsDetail oriented with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement
