Job SummaryUnder minimal supervision independently performs authenticates and reports all tests analyses according to laboratory policies and procedures. Performs required Quality Control and maintenance to ensure valid and accurate test results. Records and maintains appropriate documentation to support pre-analytical analytical and post-analytical testing components. Identifies and resolves problems with test analysis and consults with the supervisors Director of Laboratory Administration or the Director of Services when appropriate and according to established protocol. Facilitates quality patient care outcomes in a timely manner. Employees in this role must sit for the MLS(ASCP) certification exam within 3 months of graduating their MLS program or within 3 months of hire date whichever is applicable to the employees situation. This position shall be vacated within 3 months of attaining MLS(ASCP) certification. Additionally if the employee is unable to obtain MLS(ASCP) certification the position shall be vacated within 12 months of first exam attempt.
Essential Functions:
- Performs required competencies proficiency testing quality control maintenance testing and authenticates all results per departmental procedures and regulatory requirements. (20%)
- Provides troubleshooting assistance and support to technical staff and with the vendors to ensure uptime and testing turnaround times with equipment and for testing procedures. (20%)
- Analyzes pre-analytical analytical and post-analytical quality control and specimen requirements to ensure accurate results. (10%)
- Advises and consults with the appropriate supervisor regarding troubleshooting investigations and quality control issues. (10%)
- Assists in teaching training staff development and competencies for the laboratory and the MLS program. (10%)
- Trains for new technology or new testing as new technology or testing is released. (10%)
- Assist in compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies. (10%)
- Follows and ensures safety life safety and infection control procedures for self patients and others. (10%)
Education:
- Bachelors Degree Required or
- High School Diploma or GED AND current enrollment or recent completion of an accredited four-year school of Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Science. Required
Work Experience:
- less than 1 year Required
Licenses:
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Familiar with regulatory compliance in QC and competency requirements.
- Good communication and customer relation skills to ensure patient safety and quality processes in the laboratory.
- Ability to perpetuate teamwork
- Ability to organize and prioritize work within the department.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to troubleshoot testing equipment and quality issues
