Job Summary

This position is part of the Irene Curie Program and is currently only open to female candidates.

The position
We are looking for a motivated and forward-thinking Assistant Professor to strengthen our research in nano-optics and nanophotonics. You will join thePhotonics and Semiconductor Nanophysics (PSN)group embedded in the Optics & Photonics domain of the department and contribute to the development of novel photonic concepts and devices for applications in imaging sensing communication and energy.

For this position we envision a mix of fundamental exploration of the limits of light confinement and light-matter interaction and the application of these concepts into novel devices for imaging communication energy harvesting and/or metrology/sensing. The balance between fundamental and applied research will depend on the profile and interests of the applicant.

Potential research directions include:

  • Quantum optical processes at the nanoscale
  • Ultrafast and nonlinear lightmatter interactions
  • Reconfigurable and active photonic systems
  • Optical metasurfaces and inverse design
  • Nanophotonic devices for communication sensing or energy harvesting

You will establish your own research line while collaborating with colleagues leading institutes and industry partners in a vibrant interdisciplinary environment and beyond including in areas such as magneto-optics spintronics biosensing and quantum technologies. You will contribute to the optics and photonics curriculum in our Bachelor and Master programs and help train the next generation of engineers and scientists.

Moreover you will be active in teaching the engineers of the future both at bachelor and master level within APSE and possibly beyond. As a PI you will build up a research group that fits well to the social and welcoming atmosphere of PSN. You share our commitment to mentoring a diverse and inclusive team of PhD students and postdocs working at the cutting edge of science and technology.

The Department of Applied Physics and Science Education (APSE) at TU/e conducts cutting-edge fundamental and applied research in Optics & Photonics Plasma & Flow Materials and Quantum. Job Requirements

  • A PhD in Physics Physical Chemistry Electrical Engineering or a comparable domain and postdoctoral or industry experience is considered an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality academic research with a focus on collaboration and innovation.
  • Affinity and willingness to teach and contribute to the Applied Physics bachelor and master curriculum.
  • Collaborative skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent (written and verbal) proficiency in English.
