The RMD team is looking for a Systems Engineer Intern to support the Missile Defense Sensors (MDS) department. The MDS department provides subject matter expertise for concept development architectural design requirements generation & flow-down modeling and simulation systems analysis integration test and evaluation of world-class Missile Defense & Sensor Systems to be achieved through our people processes technology and performance.

This position is an onsite rolein Tucson AZ

This position can be a Sophomore Junior Senior or Post Graduate Technical Intern based on the candidates qualifications and standing as outlined below:

  • (Sophomore Technical Intern) - must be enrolled in a Bachelors degree program and classified as a Sophomore by start of internship
  • (Junior Technical Intern) - must be enrolled in a Bachelors degree program and classified as a Junior by start of internship
  • (Senior Technical Intern)- must be enrolled in a Bachelors degree program and classified as a Senior by start of internship
  • (Post-Graduate Technical Intern) - must have an undergraduate degree and be enrolled in a graduate degree program (in degree fields listed in Qualifications You Must Have) by start of internship

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

You will be working as part of a team to define radar system requirements design architectures and algorithms in support of those requirements and collaborate with software development teams to ensure effective implementation. Some specific responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing radar system performance data with respect to requirements
  • Identifying performance deficiencies and proposing solutions
  • Defining and prototyping new algorithms to enhance system performance
  • Presenting plans designs and system performance to peers internal leadership and external customers
  • Providing subject matter expertise to agile software development teams to ensure proper implementation of requirements

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • This position is for an intern who is enrolled in a Bachelors (or higher) Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) degree program and will be at minimum entering their Sophomore year by the start of summer 2026
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:

  • Experience with Battle Management command Control Communications Computers and Intelligence (BMC4I) systems Radar Systems or signal processing techniques
  • Experience with developing documenting and maintaining processes methods and tools
  • Proven ability to develop technical solutions to complex issues
  • Experience working with Matlab C/C Java or DOORS
  • Strong analytic technical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with MS Office Suite
  • Experience with system level requirements development documentation and maintenance and/or requirements development and design of system level software architecture
  • Experience with radar system concepts; detection discrimination track and signal processing algorithms and their behaviors and performance
  • Experience with the development and coding of system models algorithms test vectors and analysis tools in support of analyzing radar requirements and performance
  • Experience and interest in Information Assurance/Cyber Engineering requirements determination development and implementation
  • Experience in using AI/ML and signal processing in database and algorithm design and enhancement
  • Previous military service
  • Excellent communication technical writing oral presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to interface with customers and lead technical solutions to complex user needs
  • Strong analytic technical and problem-solving skills
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or greater

Security Clearance:

This position requires a security clearance. DCSA Consolidated Adjudication Services (DCSA CAS) an agency of the Department of Defense handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. More information about Security Clearances can be found on the US Department of State government website here: salary range for this role is 37000 USD - 82000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer including but not limited to the role function and associated responsibilities a candidates work experience location education/training and key skills.
