The Finance Manager will review the Accounting Clerk positions work while having a key role in strategic planning making tasks more efficient and effective and identify and assess problems. The Finance Manager will be able to plan prioritize organize and track tasks and issues. Key tasks will be reviewing and coding invoices creating journal entries assisting with creating annual financial statements assisting with annual audit performing monthly forecasting and budgeting tasks. The Finance Manager will have a strong background in accounting.
Primary Responsibilities
- Review and approve monthly bank reconciliations.
- Review and assist the Accounting Clerk with monthly PCard reconciliations.
- Monitor the Corp Finance email and will review and code invoices daily. The Finance Manager will ensure invoices are correct have appropriate approvals and are compliant with all necessary policies. Coding of invoices will be done by the Finance Manager and incompliance with PSAS.
- Process all refunds to students when required which the Finance Manager will ensure all criteria are met prior to issuing a refund.
- Prepare the monthly forecasting in the first week of each month for senior leadership. The Finance Manager will answer questions senior leadership may have and will have the support of the Director of Finance.
- Assist the Director of Finance in creating the annual financial statements. Assistance could be with the notes support and face of the financial statements. The financial statements will be in accordance with PSAS.
- Assist the Director of Finance with annual financial statement audits where needed.
- Assist the Director of Finance with building the annual budgets and five-year projections.
- Check the RBC bank accounts daily to ensure there is no fraud or suspicious activity.
- Support the Accounting Clerk to make payments through the bank account. The Finance Manager will ensure all approvals and supporting documents are obtained prior to the payment being made.
- Track all lease payments to ensure no payments are missing and payments are correct.
- Complete the following journal entries:
- Accounts receivable. The Finance Manager will track maintain and record accounts receivable.
- Monthly depreciation expense for assets. The Finance Manager will also maintain the asset continuity schedule.
- The Finance Manager will track maintain and recognize prepaids as needed.
- The Finance Manager will track maintain and recognize deposits as needed.
Knowledge Skills Abilities
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles specifically PSAS.
- High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office particularly Excel and Word and with an automated financial system.
- Excellent attention to detail organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to manage confidential material and maintain staff and student privacy.
- Demonstrated ability to be an effective problem solver with excellent oral and written communication skills and strong organizational and time-management skills with meeting deadlines.
Required Education and Experience
- Typically the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through the successful completion of bachelors degree in accounting business administration or commerce majoring in accounting supplemented with a Chartered Professional Accountant designation or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years accounting related experience.
