What You Will Do At ODM:

Office:Legal Counsel

Bureau: Provider & Program Compliance

Classification:Attorney 5(PN )

Job Overview:

The Ohio Department of Medicaid is seeking an attorney for our legal unit Provider & Program Compliance. As a Senior Legal Counsel your responsibilities will include:

  • Researching and providing legal advice regarding institutional providers (e.g. hospitals nursing facilities ambulatory surgery centers federally qualified health centers rural health clinics)
  • Reviewing and providing legal advice and assistance with administrative rules
  • Assisting the Attorney Generals Office with administrative hearings trials and other legal matters
  • Assisting with all activities related to the resolution of legal cases including representing the agency in legal proceedings preparing cases for trials hearings and appeals settlements preparation of orders and tracking case activity
  • Researching and drafting legal opinions memoranda and other legal documents regarding Medicaid issues

    The preferred candidate should have prior experience working in a law firm or government setting with a demonstrated interest in health care law and work experience providing legal advice and interpretations on substantive legal issues. Also the preferred candidate will possess strong legal analysis skills be detail oriented and be able to work collaboratively and independently.

Admission to Ohio Bar pursuant to Section 4705.01 of Revised Code; 18 mos. exp. as licensed attorney; 6 mos. supervisory principles/techniques.

Supplemental Information:

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT REQUIRED TO REMAIN IN THE CLASSIFICATION AFTER EMPLOYMENT.
Completion of 24 credit hours of continuing legal education from accredited programs for applicable two-year reporting period pursuant to Rule X of Rules of Government of Bar of Ohio. Current certificate of registration pursuant to Rule VII of Rules of Government of Bar of Ohio.

THIS POSITION IS OVERTIME EXEMPT. This position is unclassified per 124.11 (A) (9) Ohio Revised Code.

Candidates must provide a writing sample if selected for an interview. Travel required as needed. Must provide own transportation. Or in order to operate a state vehicle you must have a valid drivers license from state of residence.
