Position Summary

and values Indigenous knowledge traditions and ways of being. We are seeking a College Driver to join our
team working collaboratively to enhance the transportation services that support students in pursuing their
education.
Under the direction of the College Administrator the College Driver provides safe and reliable transportation
services to students accessing post-secondary education and training programs. This role involves ensuring
timely pick-up and drop-off maintaining a clean and safe vehicle adhering to all safety regulations and
supporting students with respectful and professional service. The College Driver will also engage in community
relations activities to support clients and strengthen connections with the community.
This is a Term Contract position with an end date of December 31st 2028 and the possibility of extension.
What youll do
Transportation Services
- Provide safe reliable and courteous bus transportation for Seabird Island College students and when
required health clients. - Operate the vehicle with consideration for weather road and driving conditions.
- Follow established route schedules and ensure only registered students on the predetermined
attendance list are permitted on board. - Maintain safe boarding and exiting procedures for passengers.
- Regulate heating lighting and ventilation systems to ensure passenger comfort.
Safety & Compliance
- Comply with all traffic transportation and safety regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of first aid procedures.
- Carry and properly use a communication device as per established protocols.
- Ensure compliance with vehicle and bus rules promptly reporting student infractions to the College
Administrator. - Respect and follow established lines of authority and organizational policies including School and Band policy manuals
- Communicate in a courteous professional and bias-free manner with students parents health care
providers and community members. - Conduct oneself in a way that reflects positively on Seabird Island College and the community.
Vehicle Maintenance & Cleaning
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections checking tires brakes lights windshield wipers oil
fuel water and other safety equipment before operation. - Promptly report malfunctions repairs and maintenance needs to the Fleet Manager for servicing.
Keep accurate records of inspections and retain copies of all pre- and post-trip reports on the bus. - Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle:
Daily: Disinfect seats sweep floors and remove garbage.
Weekly: Power wash exterior mop floors and clean inside windows.
Record Keeping & Documentation
- Submit a copy of a current and valid drivers license (Class 2 or appropriate class) and an annual
drivers abstract to Seabird Island College. - Maintain accurate records of trips routes and student attendance as required.
Other Duties
- Additional responsibilities as needed to support the community and uphold our shared values
What you bring
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must possess a valid Class 2 3 4 (restricted or unrestricted) or Class 5 BC Drivers License.
- Must have a safe driving record for the last 5 years (drivers abstract required with no more than 6
demerit points issued in that period). - High School GED or equivalent.
- Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Must be able to comply with all traffic transportation and safety regulations.
- Ability to work early mornings and split shifts as required by class schedules.
- Physically able to assist passengers perform cleaning and maintenance duties.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Demonstrates strong time management and punctuality in adhering to route schedules.
- Strong record-keeping and reporting skills (logs inspections incidents).
Working / Special Conditions
- Initial and ongoing employment is subject to submission of a clear Criminal Record Review Program Check to ensure the safety and trust of the communities we serve. This check will be conducted every five years.
- Initial and ongoing commitment to the values and guidelines of Sqéwqel (Seabird Island Band) including our policies procedures standards of practice and laws is essential. This commitment supports our collective work the community and the responsibilities of this role.
- Must possess a valid class 5 drivers license and have access to safe and reliable transportation insured for community-based use to effectively transport clients students or children.
- Flexibility in working hours may be required including evenings and weekends to accommodate the needs and schedules of clients and community needs. Employees will be given as much notice as possible to any changes in schedule.
Preferred:
