Job Title: Laboratory Science Professional

Job Summary:
This position is in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology in Dr. Jenna Guthmillers lab. This position will utilize molecular biochemical genetic immunological and in vitro approaches to study immunity against influenza viruses. This research position will involve handling primary human tissues and maintaining the laboratory biobank. This research position will involve laboratory-based studies on primary human cells and influenza viruses with work performed at biosafety level 2. A successful candidate will take responsibility for overseeing the Guthmiller biobank participate in research projects and help maintain the operation of the laboratory. The candidate should have exceptional organization skills. The employee will be working closely with the lab manager and will assist a postdoctoral fellow in experimental work. Rarely experimental protocols will require working in the evening or on weekends.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions
Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects including
Recombinant protein expression and purification
Purification and analysis of RNA and proteins by multiple types of assays
Processing human blood and tissues including biobanking of tissues
Perform in vitro experiments at BSL2 conditions
Perform flow cytometry and other assays of immune outputs
Perform experiments and analyze data
Maintaining laboratory human tissue biobank
Prepare lab for daily operations including stocking materials equipment safety cleanliness and related areas
o Maintenance of laboratory stocks and buffers
o Maintenance of laboratory equipment and computers
Pick up transport and maintain results samples documents materials and other items as needed
o Shipping and receiving biological samples from collaborators and vendors
Dispose of laboratory materials and samples using well-established guidelines and instructions
Review complete and process logs documents databases and related materials and information
o Acquisition and analysis of flow cytometry data
Review and implement lab support policies practices and programs to meet organizational operations and management needs
o Maintain the regulatory documentation for EHS and IACUC and facilitating the laboratory inspections
o Maintaining and updating lab protocols
Independently and creatively identify laboratory solutions
Independently Review develop and implement new or modified laboratory techniques required for research projects
Assist Team Leads Supervisors and/or management with creation and implementation of processes and procedures and quality improvement initiative

Onsite this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora CO.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Intermediate Level:
Bachelors degree in biology molecular biology chemistry genetics or related field.
A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree on a year for year basis.
One (1) year professional level research experience.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
One (1) to three (3) years of experience in a basic science laboratory.
Experience with laboratory management.
Experience with animal breeding and handling.
Previous experience with flow cytometry molecular biology/biochemistry.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
Demonstrate that they are well-organized reliable independent and possess considerable attention to detail.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:
Intermediate Level: $50357 - $64054
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
