Job Duties
The Division of Pharmacy Services is within the Office of Epidemiology and supports the Department of Health in its public health mission by the provision of pharmaceuticals vaccines and pharmaceutical services to programs with partnerships within VDH and external entities. This position provides frontline leadership for pharmacy technicians ensuring accurate dispensing compounding repackaging and filling of all pharmacy orders efficient workflow exceptional customer service and adherence to regulatory standards and Commonwealth polices and procedures. Additional roles and responsibilities include: leading and supervising daily activities to optimize workflow and productivity; filling and reviewing orders for accuracy completeness and discrepancies with escalation to supervising pharmacist(s); managing inventory stocking medications restocking shelves conducting counts placing orders reconciling discrepancies monitoring expiration dates; processing prescriptions (data entry claim adjudication); handling incoming and outgoing packages; training; monitoring and providing feedback to identify development needs of pharmacy staff; auditing and generating reports; establishing revising and updating policies and procedures; problem solving and resolving errors; supporting the training and use of technology; communicating; collaborating with multidisciplinary medical professionals; performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of pharmacy operations; inventory management; drug names (brand vs. generic) and vaccine names; product strengths; abbreviations used in writing prescriptions; and third party insurance billing
Experience entering prescriptions and adjudicating third party insurance claims in a pharmacy management system
Experience assisting pharmacist with dispensing drugs
Experience managing pharmaceutical inventory
Experience managing personnel coordinating the work of other staff and providing training and technical assistance
Experience using computer software including Microsoft Excel and Word
Additional Considerations
Experience repackaging medications
Experience working in a pharmacy serving as lead pharmacy technician preferred
Experience working in retail mail-order or other pharmacy settings where prescriptions are handled
Pharmacy database (QS/1 or PioneerRX) experience preferred
