The ING Historical Archive is seeking an intern to help describe digital historical archives and collections of ING.

The ING Historical Archive houses the historical collections of ING and its predecessors. The collection contains records from 1881 to the present day and includes some 800 meters of archives over 15000 photographs and more than 12000 objects. The archive thus provides a rich picture of Dutch banking and the history of payments.

However nowadays almost all information produced is in digital form. Digital born and digitized documents must also be stored securely and permanently. For this purpose we have set up a Digital Historical it documents photos and films among other things are stored and made searchable.

The material includes photo and film collections of for example the Communications & Branding department collections of personnel networks and other documents such as (annual) reports memos and presentations.

We are looking for an intern to assist in expanding this digital archive. You will be studying the collections making inventories and upload material to the digital archive system.

The team

You will be working with the Historical Archive ING department which consists of a curator and archivist. You will be working in close collaboration with the team members and they will guide you throughout the internship.

Roles and responsibilities

• Selecting organizing and preparing digital files for upload into the archive system
• Uploading and describing digital collections in the archive system
• Answering questions and doing archival research for colleagues
• Writing on our Viva Engage channel about interesting finds in the archive or other historical subjects from the history of ING

Qualifications we are looking for:

• Masters or third-year Bachelors degree student in History Archival Studies Reinwardt Academy or similar program
• Some experience in archiving or in working with archives (for example for research)
• Affinity with archival and information sciences.
• Accurate and able to work independently
• The collections are in Dutch and English. Because a lot of the (older) historical data is in Dutch knowledge of both languages is therefore required

Het Historisch Archief is gevestigd in Amsterdam. Het grootste deel van het werk zal op kantoor plaatsvinden maar in overleg is het mogelijk om op afstand te werken.

Het ING Historisch Archief beheert de historische collecties van de ING en haar collectie bevat archiefstukken van 1881 tot nu en omvat zon 800 meter archief meer dan 15.000 fotos en meer dan 12.000 objecten. Het archief geeft daarmee een rijk beeld van het Nederlandse bankwezen en de geschiedenis van het betalingsverkeer.

Tegenwoordig wordt echter bijna alle informatie in digitale vorm geproduceerd. Digital born en gedigitaliseerde documenten moeten ook veilig en permanent worden opgeslagen. Hiervoor hebben we een Digitaal Historisch Archief opgezet. Hierin worden onder andere documenten fotos en films opgeslagen en doorzoekbaar gemaakt. Het materiaal omvat foto- en filmcollecties van bijvoorbeeld de afdeling Communicatie & Branding collecties van personeelsnetwerken en andere documenten zoals (jaar)verslagen memos en presentaties.

We zijn op zoek naar een stagiair om te helpen bij het uitbreiden van dit digitale archief. Je gaat de collecties bestuderen inventariseren en materiaal uploaden naar het digitale archiefsysteem.

Het team
Je werkt samen met de afdeling Historisch Archief ING die bestaat uit een conservator en een archivaris. Je werkt nauw samen met de teamleden en zij zullen je gedurende de hele stage begeleiden.

Taken en verantwoordelijkheden
Selecteren ordenen en voorbereiden van digitale bestanden voor upload in het archiefsysteem.
Uploaden en beschrijven van digitale collecties in het archiefsysteem.
Vragen beantwoorden en archiefonderzoek doen voor collegas.
Schrijven op ons Viva Engage kanaal over interessante vondsten in het archief of andere historische onderwerpen uit de geschiedenis van ING.

Kwalificaties waar we naar op zoek zijn:
Master of derdejaars bachelor in geschiedenis archiefwetenschappen Reinwardt Academie of een vergelijkbare opleiding.
Enige ervaring in archivistiek of in het werken met archieven (bijvoorbeeld voor onderzoek)
Affiniteit met archief- en informatiewetenschappen.
Nauwkeurig en zelfstandig kunnen werken.
De collecties zijn in het Nederlands en Engels. Omdat veel van de (oudere) historische gegevens in het Nederlands zijn is kennis van beide talen dus vereist.
