This is accomplished by following the daily operating procedures and employing the skills acquired from their training in law enforcement or emergency FUNCTIONS:Executes the daily operating routine which includes building exterior inspection interior room check life safety systems review and general hazards the movement of students staff and visitors in the buildings during the school any unusual conditions on school grounds and responds accordingly as appropriate. Maintains surveillance on persons entering and leaving school grounds. Patrols buildings and grounds to prevent vandalism and unauthorized entry. Assists in greeting and signing in visitors volunteers and vendors. Confronts unauthorized persons for verifying purpose of visit. (In emergency situations restrains individuals who may be a danger to themselves or others.)Intervenes in situations involving student safety and assists the administration as with the direction of the flow of traffic as assigned from 25 minutes before the opening of school to 15 minutes after dismissal. Also directs the flow of traffic as assigned for school activities. Assists in the movement of students in emergency with the management and oversight of designated parking areas. Patrols and observes designated play areas to ensure student law enforcement and school administrators during announced and unannounced lockdown and other emergency preparedness drills. Advises district and building administrators regarding recommended adjustments to the security and emergency response law enforcement officials in the event of an emergency or other police activity on campus as the district and building administration in the investigation of possible criminal conduct in school. Works closely with SRO / Safety and Security Coordinator and law enforcement as directed by the security cameras as directed by the training in security and emergency procedures to staff students and parents/guardians as in regularly scheduled security meetings of the district to provide feedback and to contribute to resolution of any current issues of issues of safety with other staff members as feedback to administration regarding the compliance of staff with respect to safety protocols and himself/herself in a courteous professional manner with parents staff and a positive professional relationship with students to develop an atmosphere of trust and assist in other duties as assigned by the administration when students are not on campus if not attending an orientation or training on campus during the lunch period and responds to any emergency during such appropriate confidentiality of security issues related to the district at all duties as may be assigned by the principalWears a uniform as to the nature of the job Security Specialists can be assigned to any district school or be available for up to 40 hours of initial training and annual in-service training as required or deemed necessary by the school departmentPHYSICAL DEMANDS: Hear and speak at normal levels to include making presentations and exchanging information in person and on the telephone Communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and manipulate paperSee to read prepare documents and reports and to observe studentsAble to meet multiple demands from several people and meet deadlines with severe time constraints Sit or stand for extended periods of time in both indoor and outdoor environments and possible running in order to maintain a safe learning environmentStamina to work irregular or extended hours to include a full day and then attending meetings or supervising evening events Work at a desk conference table small student classroom table or in meetings in various configurations Kneel bend at the waist and reach overhead above the shoulders and horizontallyLifting carrying pushing or pulling moderately heavy objectsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
