Overview

Were hiring a Surgical Medical Assistant to join our outpatient dermatology clinic (North Atlanta Dermatology) in Duluth Georgia. In this role youll provide hands-on surgical support to our Mohs surgeon and patients during MOHS procedures. This is a full-time outpatient position with no nights or weekends required.

Monday-Thursday 6:45 AM - 4:00 PM

Responsibilities

  • Room patients obtain intake record vital signs and prepare them for Mohs surgery.
  • Set up and maintain sterile surgical trays instruments and equipment.
  • Assist providers directly with Mohs micrographic surgery including tissue handling bandaging wound care and suture assistance.
  • Prepare label and route pathology/lab specimens per insurance guidelines.
  • Provide patient education on pre- and post-operative instructions.
  • Scribe provider notes and accurately document patient information in EMA (EHR).
  • Maintain infection control protocols sterilize instruments and manage supply inventory.
  • Support administration of local anesthetics under provider direction.
  • Monitor and restock surgical suites and supply rooms.
  • Respond to patient questions in-office and by phone as directed.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance and maintain a professional compassionate patient experience.

Qualifications

  • Able to triage patient concerns.
  • Be familiar with and compliant OSHA/HIPAA infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.
  • Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
  • Experience administering injections.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology CPT and ICD-10 codes.
  • Knowledge of office financial policies.
  • Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization.
  • Able to operate standard office equipment (i.e. computer fax copier scanner etc)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluent in English
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Ability to work in an effective cooperative and courteous manner with staff patients and visitors.
  • Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed
  • Ability to multi-task prioritize appropriately and work well both individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to read understand and follow oral and written instruction.
  • Ability to spell sort and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.

Licensure/Certifications/Education

Education and Experience:

  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program Certified Nursing Assistant program or completion of a bachelors degree program in the pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred.
  • CPR certified preferred.
  • 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or other clinical patient care experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time
  • Moderate amount of talking bending twisting reaching and balancing.
  • Use of hands and fingers.
  • Talking and listening in person and on the telephone.
  • Handling of materials such as paper supplies etc.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
  • Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
