ABOUT THE POSITION

The Director of Retail Social Enterprise is responsible for leading sales efforts and service delivery across FareStarts retail operations including the FareStart Café Restaurant Box Lunch Program Private Events and Guest Chef Night. Responsible for operational and financial performance of all retail businesses as well as fostering an environment that provides rich training opportunity to FareStart students and staff. The role combines leadership oversight with day-to-day execution balancing high-level planning with active selling lead generation and hands-on service leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following:

  • Lead and execute sales strategy including business planning execution and evaluation of all retail activities.
  • Hire train support and develop retail staff while leading the development of a strong efficiently run retail team by planning assigning directing and delegating work.
  • Manage and oversee direct reports as well as oversight for all down-level reports. Provide timely constructive and respectful feedback to staff.
  • Foster an environment of continuous individual and team success.
  • Collaborate with Director of Culinary Operations to develop and maintain food philosophy and to ensure execution and alignment with brand standards.
  • Collaborate with Programs team to align retail business activity to be student centered and in alignment with FareStarts mission and values.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications teams to align outreach and promotion with sales goals.
  • Collaborate with the Development team on Guest Chef Night including recruitment and relationship development with Chef partners.
  • Partner with Finance and SVP of Social Enterprise to develop support and maintain budgets for all areas of responsibility. Proactively provide justification and solutions for budget deviations.
  • Deliver accurate and timely reporting for sale/billing/labor/inventory to the Finance team.
  • Provide leadership oversight and direction for teams in the following areas: purchasing/storage customer service sales collaboration with event staff for internal and external events.
  • Closely monitor industry trends to ensure the organization anticipates market moves and can quickly respond to changing needs.
  • Serve as a visible leader in service settings when appropriate modeling hospitality stepping in during high-impact moments and ensuring guest satisfaction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelors degree in business management or related field and ten (10) or more years of progressively responsible food-service management; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Washington State Drivers License.
  • A Valid King County Food Permit or the ability to obtain one.
  • A Valid WSLCB Servers Permit or the ability to obtain one.
  • Proven success in direct sales and service leadership in food service hospitality or a related customer-facing industry.
  • Strong understanding of customer experience and the ability to coach others to deliver high-quality service.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of all key business areas such as risk management business finance marketing sales and food-service market trends and customer management.
  • Proficiency in Toast POS and Microsoft Office products particularly Word Outlook Excel PowerPoint and Teams.
  • Interpret apply explain and ensure compliance with applicable Federal State and local laws rules regulations policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced mission-driven environment.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team within diverse teams and environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and comfortably with audiences of different backgrounds and experiences.
  • Ability to display sensitivity tact and responsiveness in various situations and maintain a high level of confidentiality.

  • Ability to work flexible hours including some weekends evenings and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Culinary degree and experience in a restaurant and/or catering.
  • Experience with a multi-division/department operations.
