The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science leading policy and advocacy campaigns and building partnerships.

We plan to spend 16bn over the next ten years funding new discoveries in life health and wellbeing and taking on three global health challenges: mental health infectious disease and climate and health.

We are looking for a Senior Research Manager to join our team.

Where in Wellcome will I be working

You will be working within the Impacts and Adaptation team within the Climate and Health Solutions area reporting to the Head of Climate Impacts and Adaptation.

Wellcomes Climate and Health programme seeks to significantly increase our understanding of the effects of climate change on human health and identify the interventions and policies that can respond to the climate crisis in a way that protects and improves human health. To achieve this we support uptake and impact through goal-driven engagement with a wide range of stakeholders including public private and community organisations across health-impacting sectors.

What will I be doing

As a Senior Research Manager in the Climate & Health team you will play a key role in putting health at the centre of climate action. Working within the Climate Impacts and Adaptation sub-team you will help build a strong evidence base on how climate change affects health and identify adaptation actions that can protect communities worldwide.

You will manage a portfolio of research activities designed to generate actionable insights and ensure these findings inform policy and practice. Your work will span individual project delivery strategic portfolio planning and building partnerships that connect science with real-world impact.

Key accountabilities:

  • Shape and manage a coherent impact-driven portfolio of research activities focused on climate impacts and adaptation in health.

  • Oversee the delivery of individual projects ensuring they remain on track within scope and aligned to strategic objectives.

  • Lead on wider portfolio-level planning including budgeting and resource allocation to maximise efficiency and impact.

  • Collaborate with internal colleagues and external partners to ensure projects generate knowledge that directly informs policy and practice.

  • Support the growth of a diverse transdisciplinary climate and health ecosystem by fostering connections across research innovation and decision-making communities.

  • Communicate complex research findings clearly to varied audiences ensuring Wellcome is a trusted and influential voice in climate and health.

  • Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation collaborating across departments.

Minimum criteria:

  • PhD or equivalent level research experience ideally in global health climate change related fields or broader social and environmental impact sectors through working in an academic industrial funding agency or charity setting.

  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the science to impact pathway through an innovation implementation policy or alternative pathway.

  • Experience of managing large projects with multiple internal/external stakeholders at different seniority levels.
