Responsibilities

The Student Manager is responsible for all student personnel and staffing operations for the Homegrown Café and Common Ground Café. They will collaborate with the Assistant Manager to ensure the smooth functioning of general operations of the unit. Maintain constant contact with Floor Managers and Shift Leads to ensure new student employees are trained in the duties associated with their positions. Regular communication with all management staff is expected to pass on frequent updates resolve issues or concerns and praise outstanding employees.

Specific Duties

• Responsible for recruiting interviewing hiring and overall supervision of student employees associated with the Homegrown Café and Common Ground Café with the assistance of the University Dining Student Employment Office.

• Work with the Assistant Manager to provide appropriate and timely scheduling of staff for open facility hours during academic semesters (weekends winterim summer break periods only as needed). Ensure all shifts are covered.

• Approve bi-weekly timesheets for all student employees in PeopleSoft by the set deadline.

• At the end of the new employee probationary period or at least once a semester conduct employee performance evaluations as determined by the University Dining Student Employment Office.

• Plan and coordinate mandatory student employee orientations at the beginning of each semester and monthly on-going trainings/meetings with the assistance of the Shift Leads and Floor Managers. Prepare and facilitate a detailed and organized agenda for all meetings.

• Implement and maintain a program to assess student staff members knowledge and skills to ensure effective performance in each position.

• General knowledge of the service model in both locations.

• Serve as a back-up when team members are not able to cover shifts or if additional support is needed.
