Salary: $120000 - 150000/year plus bonus
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller to oversee all financial and accounting operations for our construction business. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in construction accounting strong leadership abilities and hands-on experience with Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate (formerly Timberline) ERP software. The Controller will play a key role in managing the companys financial health ensuring compliance accuracy and providing strategic financial insights to support continued growth.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger job costing A/P A/R payroll and fixed assets.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure GAAP compliance.
- Monitor cash flow forecast financial trends and manage banking relationships.
- Ensure accurate job cost reporting and monitor project budgets commitments and profitability.
- Review WIP (Work-In-Progress) schedules percent-complete accounting and job cost variance analysis.
- Collaborate with project managers to support budgeting forecasting and project performance reviews.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for Sage 300 / Timberline including reporting data accuracy and user training.
- Optimize use of ERP system for financial reporting job costing and compliance.
- Coordinate with IT or software vendors to ensure the system supports evolving business needs.
- Ensure compliance with federal state and local tax regulations including sales/use tax and payroll tax filings.
- Oversee audits (financial tax workers comp etc.) and ensure timely filing of all required reports.
- Manage subcontractor compliance with lien waivers insurance certificates and W-9s.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
- 5 years of progressive accounting/finance experience with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior accounting role in the construction industry.
- Strong proficiency with Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate (Timberline) is a must.
- Deep understanding of construction accounting practices including job costing AIA billing retainage and WIP schedules.
- Knowledge of GAAP internal controls and regulatory compliance requirements.
