About Us

The Accessibility Directorate is a dynamic and committed team that is leading and coordinating Nova Scotias work toward our goal of an accessible province by 2030. We work together with Nova Scotians with disabilities community and disability organizations government departments municipalities and villages other public sector bodies businesses and other partners to support the cultural shift needed to implement the Accessibility Act and address disability-related issues across government.

Since the team was established in 2017 we have built relationships within government and with public sector and community partners to support efforts to improve accessibility.

As Program Coordinator you will support the delivery administration coordination and evaluation of accessibility awareness education and capacity building programs to help organizations meet their obligations under the Accessibility Act. This position reports to the Director of Programs and Services.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Coordinate the planning development delivery and evaluation of accessibility awareness and education programs including workshops webinars website updates and other activities.
  • Support the planning and delivery of awareness and capacity building initiatives related to the Built Environment Accessibility Standard and other accessibility standards.
  • Liaise with partners within government and in other public sector organizations the private sector and community organizations.
  • Conduct research and analysis to support program and policy development.
  • Support the development of internal and external communications.

Qualifications and Experience

As the successful candidate you will have completed a post-secondary program in a related field within the past 3 addition you have:

  • Experience in developing implementing and evaluating programs and activities.
  • Experience in developing and delivering capacity building activities such as workshops webinars toolkits and other resource
  • Experience in project management including planning coordinating tracking and managing multiple activities.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis and synthesizing information.
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of partners.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision carry out work within tight timelines and manage competing priorities.
  • Experience using the Microsoft software suite including Outlook Office PowerPoint and Teams.

Assets:

  • Knowledge of accessibility and disability issues including relevant legislation policy and programs.
  • Fluency in French (oral and/or written).
  • Experience using other software such as Zoom and Drupal.
  • Knowledge or experience in provincial government.

Additional Information

Salary Range: $1924.95- $2360.46Bi-Weekly
