Job Summary

Overview

The Vermont Department of Health (VDH) is looking to hire a temporary Public Health Analyst II. The position requires understanding and analysis of data for topics across the public health spectrum as well as an understanding of data management principles data systems and data governance. This position is expected to provide analysis and interpretation of data; develop data products of varied complexity and respond to internal and external data requests. The position may also provide survey development and implementation support along with any other related duties as required.

This position operates under the Health Statistics and Informatics Director to support the analytic programs within the division. The work will be project based and the person hired into the role will have a chance to work with multiple staff across multiple teams. The position will be based in Waterbury but eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

Expertise in Microsoft Office statistical analysis software (SAS R SPSS etc.) is required and expertise with data visualization software (PowerBI) is preferred.

Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting. Meetings with data users and providers may require some travel for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside of normal office hours may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Masters degree or higher in biostatistics epidemiology public health or a social sciences discipline including 6 credits in statistics at the graduate level AND one (1) year or more of professional level work in health-related research statistics or program evaluation where the activities include gathering analyzing and interpreting statistical data.

OR

Bachelors degree in statistics a health-related or social sciences discipline including 12 college credits in statistics research or computer sciences and 6 of these credits must be in statistics AND four (4) years or more of professional level work in health-related research statistics or program evaluation where the activities include gathering analyzing and interpreting statistical data.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters Degree in Public Health Statistics or other social science discipline and at least six credits in statistics AND a minimum of one year of professional level work in health-related research statistics or program evaluation where the activities include gathering analyzing and interpreting statistical data. Preference will be given to candidates who possess:
Quantitative analysis skills including experience with statistical software (SAS R SPSS etc.) and complex sample analysis;
Experience with web-based data display tools (PowerBI etc.) and effective data visualization skills;
Experience with state-level population-based health surveillance program evaluation and development of outcome measures;
Ability to demonstrate competence in analyzing and solving complex and difficult problems;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Flexibility in working with different teams and managing many different projects.
