Directly responsible to the Director of Innovative Teaching & Learning

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
The Instructional Design Specialist at River Parishes Community College is a full-time position that supports academic affairs faculty staff and leadership in the development delivery and evaluation of high-quality courses and programs across all modalities (face-to-face hybrid and online). Reporting directly to the Director of Innovative Teaching & Learning the position ensures instructional materials and learning experiences are student-centered accessible and aligned with institutional goals accreditation requirements and best practices in teaching and learning.

Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

  • Associates degree in a related field
  • At least two years experience as an instructional designer or similar role
  • Advanced knowledge of Learning Management Systems
  • Working knowledge of digital pedagogy & design theory
  • Proficiency with productivity and creativity suite tools (e.g. Microsoft 365 Adobe etc.)
  • Experience with WCAG accessibility standards
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Strong communication skills

Preferred:

  • Masters degree in instructional technology instructional design curriculum or education
  • Five years experience as an instructional designer or similar role
  • Experience using Student Information Systems
  • Administrative experience with Learning Management Systems
  • Online teaching experience

Job Duties and Other Information

PRINCIPAL DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY

Instructional Design (65%)

  • Design develop and maintain master course shells for various departments within Academic Affairs
  • Monitor instructional design requests from division administrators
  • Construct agreements with division administrators for completion of master courses
  • Develop teaching guides on delivering course content and assessments for master courses
  • Collaborate with a subject matter expert to complete master courses
  • Ensure accessibility standards are met in all master courses

Administrative (20%)

  • Monitor accessibility standards compliance across various departments within Academic Affairs
  • Field administrator for official Learning Management System and various instructional technology tools
  • Updating work progress in CRM
  • Provide frequent status reports and updates to Director of Innovative Teaching & Learning
  • Contribute to quality assurance and assessment efforts by supporting faculty as they align their courses with institutional standards for teaching and learning
  • Work collaboratively with other areas of Academic Affairs on various projects
  • Additional duties as assigned

Professional Development & Training (15%)

  • Collaborate with faculty to align course design with student learning outcomes and appropriate assessments
  • Partner one-on-one with faculty to improve course design through coaching feedback and course review
  • Support the work of the Center for Teaching Excellence by collaborating on faculty professional development initiatives
