The Georgia State University Police Department provides law enforcement security and safety services to the university community and the immediatesurrounding areas ensuring a safe environment for ourstudents facultystaff and neighbors.

Georgia State boasts oneof the largest university police forces in the state with 160 officers across all six Atlanta metro campuses.

The department is accredited and certified by the following organizations; Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. (CALEA) The International Association of Campus LawEnforcement (IACLEA) and the State of Georgia Law Enforcement Certification Program.

The Georgia State University Police Department is seeking a Sergeant to join the already awesome team in keeping the Police Department at the level of excellence that it has strived to become and sustain.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Supervises Police operations on an assigned shift.
  • Assumes command of officers in absence of Lieutenant.
  • Instructs and assists officers in more difficult phases of their work.
  • Gives directions and instructions on campus regulations to visitors.
  • Supervises control of traffic for special events.
  • Answers questions and resolves complaints of visitors
  • Participates in the training of police officers.
  • Investigates thefts vandalism fires and accidents.
  • Assembles factual material for presentation in reports.
  • Serves at desk receives telephone calls; assigns and dispatches officers as necessary.
  • Performs routine police functions such as patrolling the campus directing and issuing tickets

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED and three years of law enforcement experience. Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) certification as a Law Enforcement Officer required.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

  • Demonstration of leadership abilities.
  • Considerable knowledge of university policy rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of modern police procedures.
  • Knowledge of first aid
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Ability to tactfully deal with people.
  • Ability to assign and supervise work of lower-level police officers.
