Role Overview
The client is seeking an Associate Principal to join our Los Angeles headquarters. This senior leadership role involves managing large complex structural projects while contributing to business development team leadership and client engagement.
As an Associate Principal you will play a key role in the firm s strategic growth helping to win new business develop client relationships and mentor future leaders in the structural engineering space.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage large-scale structural engineering projects from concept through completion.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships ensuring high-quality project delivery.
- Oversee project teams (engineers BIM designers) and ensure successful execution of designs.
- Provide technical leadership in complex structural systems particularly in Type I construction.
- Contribute to business development efforts securing new projects and expanding the firm s portfolio.
- Collaborate with architects contractors and consultants to ensure innovative and cost-effective solutions.
- Mentor and develop future leaders within the firm.
Requirements
Must-Have Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 12 years of building design experience.
- Education: Master s degree in Structural Engineering from a U.S. university.
- License: SE License (required).
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong experience with Type I construction (steel and concrete structures).
- Ability to design and detail large complex structural systems across multiple market sectors.
- Proven ability to lead teams of engineers and BIM designers.
- Strong track record in seismic evaluation and retrofit design (ASCE 41 is a plus).
- Experience with DSA and HCAI/OSHPD is a plus.
- Strong experience with Type I construction (steel and concrete structures).
- Leadership & Business Development:
- Recognized as a leader in the industry with established client relationships.
- Strong business acumen and ability to develop and maintain new clients.
- Ability to act as a decisive leader and mentor within the firm.

- Specialized expertise in a specific technical area or market sector.
- Experience working on high-rise commercial aviation healthcare and institutional projects.

MUST HAVE: Active Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license. Minimum 12 years of technical experience, with no less than 5 years in project management or team leadership. Proven experience leading the design of water and waste water pipelines, force mains, pump stations, lift stations, treatment plants, water supply systems, and solids handling facilities. Strong understanding of current water and waste water regulations. Demonstrated ability to manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets while overseeing design, QA/QC, and project workloads. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and clients. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Project resume showcasing relevant experience (must be ready to submit). NICE TO HAVE: Familiarity with Central Texas municipalities, including the City of Austin and surrounding agencies. Local project experience in Austin, San Antonio, and other nearby regions.
