The ACCHaoS (ACC Hands on Science exhibition) is a program that goes out to local elementary and middle schools and sets up a number of hands on science exhibits to help peek interest in the STEM fields. We need help setting up and tearing down the exhibits as well as interacting with students. Some educational background is preferred.Job Description:
Description of Duties and Tasks
Communicate with local schools and organizations to schedule science demonstration events
Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies repair and replace equipment as needed
Collaborate with faculty to develop new hands-on experiments to enhance future events
Assist with loading transporting and unloading equipment to and from events in the Austin/Round Rock area
Monitor demonstrations during events to ensure working order and safety
Provide instructions explanations and assistance to the public during events
Knowledge
Basic physics understanding
Basic mechanical and general repair knowledge
Basic understanding of spreadsheets and inventory control
Skills
Background in education (teacher or tutor working directly with students)
Basic computer skills
Required Education
High school diploma or educational equivalent
At least one astronomy class (either high school or college level)
Physical Requirements
Lifting heavy equipment (more than 50 lbs) moving setting up and disassembling equipment
Safety
Work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.
