Are you the one were looking for

We are seeking a dynamic highlymotivated Newcomer Child & Family Support Worker who demonstrates our values of compassion accountability responsiveness and empowerment; to our clients families and each other.


The Newcomer Child and Family Support Worker is responsible for providing support to newly arrived government-assisted refugees (GARs) in Hamilton and Brantford and Ukrainian families supported by this unique position you will be working in collaboration with Intensive Case Managers (Resettlement Assistance Program and Newcomer Client Support Services) and the Newcomer Outreach Worker (Wesley Children & Family Services staff) supporting families with children aged 0 6 years; will act as a subject matter expert to the larger Newcomer teams and will assist with arranging information sessions and other special events targeted at families with children. Primary services will be directed to connecting parents and children to Early Years Services within the Hamilton and Brantford area as well as facilitating learning from the Ontario pedagogy for early years How Does Learning Happen.


This position is a unionized full-time temporary position. The contract is until March 31 2026. The rate of pay is 23.93 per hour. This position is 37.5 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Welcome interact and support clients accessing the program and be available and approachable to address clients needs as they arise.
  2. Responsible for necessary interpretation and translation for direct service delivery with clients.
  3. In collaboration with the Newcomer Outreach Worker provide appropriate client-centered information services and referrals to internal or external services and resources available in the community.
  4. Manage and maintain client files and provide regular follow-up with clients.
  5. Complete funder reports.
  6. Conduct regular home visits and accompany clients to various appointments in the community for different services and resources.
  7. Advocate on behalf of clients for services and resources in the community.
  8. Provide life skills telephone support and crisis intervention as needed.
  9. Participate in case management meetings with internal staff and external service providers.
  10. Be familiar with and adhere to the EalyON Child and Family Centre policies and Wesleys Children & Family Services mandate services and procedures.

What you will bring:

  1. Advanced knowledge of one of the second languages is required: Arabic Amharic Tigrinya Nuer Somali Swahili Dari or Pashto.
  2. University Degree in Social Work or related Social Science; Social Service worker diploma; Early Childhood Education diploma; Child and Youth Worker diploma; or equivalent.
  3. Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators or eligible for registration with the respective college at the time of employment.
  4. A minimum of 2 years relevant practical experience working with a relevant population is required.
  5. A minimum of one years experience serving the needs of children aged 0 6 and vulnerable populations including victims of trauma is required.
