Position Overview
The High Medical Needs ESOL Coordinator and Instructor will be responsible for leading English language instruction for students with high medical needs and their caregivers. This position will be responsible for program coordination involving recruitment and program reporting and for the instruction of at least ten classes during the program year.
The Coordinator and Instructor will report directly to the Associate Director of Economic Self-Sufficiency and Education and is expected to participate in other duties as needed such as provide occasional support for NSCs volunteer teachers and other Education programs.
This full-time temporary position is funded through July 30 2026 with the possibility of extension should funding be renewed.

Essential Functions
Coordinate recruitment and placement of students in high medical needs ESOL classes providing at least ten classes in a program year.
Plan and implement daily high medical needs ESOL curriculum to learners 3-4 days/week or 9-12 hours/week.
Utilize effective teaching and classroom management techniques and strategies to address students needs including learner-centered instruction differentiated instruction and individual support.
Maintain accurate student records on attendance and progress and regularly update designated database as required by funders.
Administer pre- and post- CASAS testing with CASAS paper tests to track student progress.
Coordinate with transportation partners and students for bus routes and weekly pickup and drop off lists.
Coordinate purchases financial requests and tracking of all financial expenditures including weekly snack purchases with support of Associate Director.
Submit monthly provider reports on program activities to the funder in a timely fashion.
Connect students with volunteer tutors and external referrals to local ESOL providers upon closure if required.
Participate in team meetings as well as teacher meetings trainings NSC-staff meetings or other agency events as required by the Education Team.
Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge and/or experience working with beginner English language learners.
Creativity and flexibility in developing materials relevant to the ever-changing needs of English language learners.
Patience compassion willingness to learn a sense of humor and a warm personality is required.
Basic understanding of NSCs mission vision values programs and services.
Ability to effectively use standard office equipment operate a computer and use a variety of common software programs including Microsoft Office Zoom spreadsheets customized databases and digital learning platforms.
Possess strong interpersonal skills as demonstrated by compassionate courteous cordial cooperative and professional interaction with diverse groups of co-workers external business partners and the community.
Adheres to all NSC and departmental policies and procedures.
Experience Education and Licensure
Minimum Experience: 1-2 years of experience teaching English (abroad or in the US). Previous experience in special education is an addition but not required.
Minimum Education: BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university in a related field (education TESOL linguistics etc.) preferred.
Licensure: TEFL/CELTA certification desired.
LOCATION AND HOURS
This is a full-time in-person position based in Philadelphia. The position is currently operating on a hybrid office schedule; it requires 2 to 4 days per week in person at both NSCs Center City office as well as the program site in NE Philadelphia. Our regular hours are Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and this position may require working occasional evenings and weekends.
COMPENSATION: The salary range is $50000 - $51000 commensurate with experience. The benefits package includes generous vacation and sick leave; paid sabbatical leave; summer hours; early Friday closing 77% employer-paid health dental and vision coverage; short-term disability long-term disability and life insurance 403(b) with an employer match.
