Performs responsible technical field inspection and office work enforcing national state and local codes governing the design construction and renovation of buildings structures wastewater treatment facilities and other public works projects. Work involves inspection of buildings and structures plumbing electrical and mechanical installations and requires considerable knowledge of electrical carpentry plumbing building construction or mechanical field as well as in depth knowledge of all applicable codes and ordinances. Employees assigned to this classification must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in the interpretation and application of codes in making technical decisions. Work is performed under general supervision according to established guidelines. Performance is reviewed through reports submitted meetings and results obtained for technical sufficiency and consistent application.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates Degree with construction-related coursework in area of assignment or an equivalent combination of education training and experience. All positions require a valid Florida Drivers License and must pass a background check which includes a polygraph.
PLUMBING:
Construction Inspector I: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Plumbing work or a combination of post-secondary education training and experience totaling five (5) years. Must be certified by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAI) as a Standard Inspector Plumbing or must obtain a State of Florida Provisional Certification (Standard Inspector - Plumbing) within 120 days of hire and the permanent License must be obtained within two (2) years of receiving the Provisional License.
Construction Inspector II: Minimum of seven (7) years experience in Plumbing work or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education training and experience totaling seven (7) years. Must be certified by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAI) as a Standard Inspector Plumbing.
Construction Inspector III: Minimum of nine (9) years experience in building construction; or an equivalent combination of education training and experience totaling nine (9) years. Must be certified by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAI) as a Standard Inspector Plumbing.
This is a full-time CONTRACT position with the same benefits as Regular full-time. Most contracts are renewable for terms of one year.
