Teacher – Special Education

Lutheran Social Services of WI & Upper MI is currently seeking an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher to join our team serving the Waukesha County Birth to Three program.

This is a part-time opportunity approximately 20 - 25 hours per week.

Birth to Three provides early intervention services in home to children and their families. We work directly with children on areas of development to bring the child up to age level while coaching parents and providing them tools and strategies to assist in bring the child up to the desired development level.

The Teacher-Special Education completes eligibility evaluations on children with developmental concerns and provides early intervention services as a team member to families with children who qualify for the program. Provides early intervention services designed to enhance child development within the context of family focusing on strategies that promote parent-child interaction and functional skill development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Completes eligibility evaluations and assessments as assigned.
• Works as a team member demonstrating expertise as an early childhood special educator to assist families in fostering the development and learning of their child.
• Focuses on family driven priorities as the foundation for development of outcomes and the implementation of services.
• Provides ideas strategies and techniques to families and team members to enhance the childs development within the context of their everyday lives. All ideas strategies and techniques focus on improving developmental skills that improve the childs ability to function within daily routines.
• Provides services in such a way that takes into account that a childs greatest resource is the family. Works in partnership with parents in any activity that serves their child.
• Expected to understand productivity expectations and meet those standards that have been established for the role and the program
• Provides services to families through support and adult learning helping families to identify strengths maximize parent-child interactions and work toward fostering the development of their child.
• Participates as an active team member in IFSP meetings.
• Participates in staff meetings to assess plan implement and evaluate services provided in order to meet best practice criteria and the needs of participants and their families. This includes identifying and utilizing materials that are accessible and familiar to the family.
• Coordinates services through consultation and collaboration with other professionals.
• Establishes and maintains effective public and working relationships with other staff families volunteers and community organizations.
• Provides services at times and locations convenient for families.
• Attends team meetings and completes all paperwork and data entry as required to perform the above duties.
• Participates in professional development to ensure fidelity of practice.
• Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• A Bachelors degree in Special Education in early childhood is required.
• A minimum of two years of experience working as an early childhood special educator to include experience working with families and children with disabilities in natural environments.
• Knowledge of federal state and local rules and regulations governing Birth to Three Programs.
• Ability to complete continuing education as required by this program professional organizations and /or regulatory agencies.
• Knowledge of the philosophy and delivery of early intervention services.
• Considerable knowledge of modern principles and practices used in early childhood special educator for children and their families.
• Working knowledge of techniques that promote positive behavior and success in young children.
• Working knowledge of techniques and strategies effective for adult learning (parents and care providers).
• The ability to establish effective working relationships with all stakeholders. An ability to work with diverse populations.
  
  

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS:

• Must have a valid drivers license and have reliable transportation to perform the essential duties of the role; a motor vehicle check (MVR) with a satisfactory driving record per the LSS Driver Safety Procedure is required and ability to meet LSS auto insurance requirements.
• An 808 or 809 early childhood special educator license from the State of Wisconsin is required.
  
  

TRAVEL: Daily travel is required for this position. Some overnight travel may be required.
