SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The Interface Engineer will lead in authoring and designing Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents (IDDs). This includes establishing new interfaces between external elements including sensors and other Command and Control Systems. The Interface Engineer will ensure the ICDs and IDDs created are to appropriate standards required of the program. Additionally it is expected that the Interface Engineer develop various behavioral diagrams to understand and document the requirements. The Interface Engineers primary responsibility will be developing updating and maintaining multiple ICDs and IDDs. Successful candidate will attend interface working group meetings with the external MDA customer and representatives of assigned external element engineering organization as well as support to program integration and test related efforts for the associated interface. Successful candidate may also be assigned to support: other Interface Engineers in developing ICDs for other Missile Defense Systems Elements support requirements engineering use case development and logical architecture modeling tasks as SE department tasking requires. The Interface Engineer will support leadership (internal and external) developers and testers with messages and interface rules (transmit receive processing) questions and test findings. The ideal candidate will bring nine or more years of professional experience in Systems Engineeringor a closely related disciplineand possess deep expertise in developing ICDs and IDDs that are fully compliant with DIDs and DoD requirements.

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Proven ability to work collaboratively within a seasoned systemsengineering team delivering high quality products and artifacts in strict accordance with the programs;Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP)&;and associated processes.
• Extensive experience authoring Missile Defense System ICDs and IDDs highly desirable
• Strong background in creating complex Command and Control (C2) system; ICDs and IDDs highly desirable.
• Solid foundation in computer programming principles enabling effective communication with software development teams and a clear understanding of implementation constraints.
• Additionally the candidate must have a solid grasp of Systems Engineering processes and principles with a proven record of applying these concepts to deliver effective product solutions.
• Experience in requirements elicitationparticularly using behavior diagrams to analyze and decompose requirementsis required.
• The applicant should demonstrate expertise in interface engineering including authoring ICDs and IDDs that cover:
  • Message definition processing rules and formatting (e.g. XML VMF)
  • Physical and network specifications and models (including the ISOOSI model)
  • Network topologies devices and protocols (e.g. TCP/IP UDP)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Prior work with IBM Rational DOORS (or similar requirements management tools) is highly desirable.

• Bachelors Degree and 9 years of experience
• Masters Degree and 7years of experience
