Job Description


Position: Homecoming & Picnics Project Coordinator Ohio Commission for the U.S. Semiquincentennial

Location: Ohio History Connection at Rhodes Tower (Columbus OH)

Salary: $20.00 - 27.00 per hour

Status: Full Time temporary

Special Notes: Employees of the Ohio Commission for the U.S. Semiquincentennial are considered employees of Ohio History Connection. Positions with the Commission are temporary through December 2026 when the Commission will complete its main operations.


About the Commission:

The Ohio Commission for the U.S. Semiquincentennial (also referred to as America 250-Ohio) was formed through the Ohio Revised Code: Section 149.309 and announced on March 1 2022 on Ohios Statehood Day by Governor Mike DeWine. The (29) member commission is charged with preparing the state to participate in the United States of Americas 250th anniversary which culminates on July 4 2026.

During this multi-year commemoration Ohioans from our local communities in all 88 counties will be the spotlight of the impact that has/is/will be made on our nations story. From the many Firsts that came from Ohio (i.e. Aviation Universities/Colleges and National Organizations) to the sacred stories of our residents and the unique areas of the state that continues to evolve the rich content of our state will be an opportunity for all people to connect and see themselves in Ohios well as the story of our nation.


Position Summary:

The America 250-OH Commission is seeking a highly organized and proactive individual to join our team as the Outreach and Communications Coordinator. This role will be instrumental in helping to spread the word about the America 250-Ohio commission mission activities and partnership opportunities. They will also be engaged in preparing and implementing commission projects. This role works with multiple teams to ensure the efficient flow of information and coordination with both internal and external teams.


Essential Functions:

Program Coordination & Operations (40%)

  • Provide day-to-day project management for the Homecoming and Picnic program including tracking timelines deliverables and budgets.
  • Coordinate planning and execution for the three Signature Picnics hosted by America 250-Ohio including site logistics permits vendor coordination and onsite execution support.
  • Help develop and manage a detailed project plan and production calendar for the full lifecycle of the program.
  • Support the planning packaging and distribution of event kits to participating communities and partners statewide.
  • Maintain clear documentation tracking systems and shared assets related to the program.

Partner & Stakeholder Liaison (20%)

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for local community partners hosting or participating in picnics providing them with timely communications tools and support.
  • Foster positive and productive working relationships with regional event organizers civic groups America 250-Ohio communities and cultural organizations.
  • Organize and participate in regular planning calls training webinars and check-ins with partner organizations.

Sponsorship Fulfillment & Relationship Management (30%)

  • Manage all sponsor relationships related to the Homecoming and Picnic program in coordination with the America 250-Ohio fundraising team.
  • Ensure timely and accurate fulfillment of all benefits and deliverables outlined in sponsor agreements (e.g. logo placement speaking opportunities signage recognition).
  • Track and communicate key deadlines deliverables and approvals with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong relationships with sponsor representatives acting as a responsive professional and enthusiastic liaison.
  • Produce post-event sponsor reports that include documentation metrics and impact stories to demonstrate ROI and support future partnership renewals.

Additional Duties (10%)

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with communications fundraising and creative teams to align messaging and visuals.
  • Support procurement and inventory management related to event supplies branded items and signage.
  • Assist with risk management planning accessibility considerations and evaluation tools.
  • Represent America 250-Ohio at partner or planning meetings as needed.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Associates degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field PLUS three to five years relevant working experience OR
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field PLUS one to three years relevant working experience.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • 35 years of relevant experience in project coordination event planning nonprofit programming or sponsor relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with many moving parts and stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; diplomatic and professional in tone and demeanor.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently take initiative and problem-solve in real time.
  • Experience working with sponsorships or fulfillment plans is a strong plus.
