Job Summary

Description of Work

TheNurse Consultant Iposition is in the Division of Professional Standards of the Department of Adult Correction and reports directly to the Accreditation and Compliance Director.

This position is responsible for assisting to ensure the highest standards of medical care across all state correctional facilities. This position will provide hands-on guidance and support to NCDAC correctional facilities helping them achieve and maintain American Correctional Association (ACA) accreditation with a specific focus on medical expected practices.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing expert guidance and assistance to facilities to ensure compliance with ACA medical standards
  • Supporting facilities through quarterly reviews annual self-assessments and file preparation for ACA accreditation
  • Assisting with the triennial ACA reaccreditation process
  • Supporting accreditation efforts with any other professional associations the NCDAC pursues
  • Participating in quarterly and annual compliance audits of medical practices at facilities statewide
  • Collaborating with DAC leadership (including Deputy Secretary of Professional Standards Deputy Secretary of Comprehensive Health Services Accreditation and Compliance Director Nursing Director Division Directors Regional Directors and Wardens) to develop strategies for enhancing medical operations utilizing insights from operational assessments and other performance measures

Note:
  • This position requires frequent travel sometimes on short notice including occasional overnight stays.
  • This positions office location will be determined based upon the applicant selected for the position and is not required to be based in Raleigh.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) withState Benefits.

Management Preferences:
  • Thorough knowledge of prison operations state and federal regulations and laws governing assigned areas of responsibility
  • Working knowledge of performance audit procedures expected practices and emerging practices
  • Experience in reviewing and approving work findings/ reports ensuring rules and regulations are interpreted correctly
  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional nursing and skills attendant to its practice
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and one year of experience in the area of specialization.
