Special Education Coordinator200 Days School Year (183 days) plus 17 additional days Director of Pupil Personnel ServicesQUALIFICATIONS: Masters DegreeDESE licensure -Special Education (or related field) & Administrative License SEI Endorsement RequiredEXPERIENCE:Three years classroom teaching experience appropriate to supervisory grade levels of this position; sped or related student services field also appropriatePrior administrative or team chair experience desiredStrong organizational communication and management skillsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Supervises the special education process and procedures from initial referral to eligibility determination to implementation of Individualized Education (IEP) the Pupil Personnel Director by assuming responsibility for administrative details related to effective and efficient operations of special education programs and services in the all aspects of compliance and monitoring with IDEA and related special education law regulation and policy for students ages 6-22 years as assigned Maintains electronic IEP database of all students on assigned caseloads Chairs IEP Team meetings and acts as the local educational agency (LEA) representative Defines service/program proposal in the event of a Team disagreement Oversees the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities as assignedCoordinates special education services among teachers and service providersDevelops and delivers formal and informal professional development to special education classroom teachers and paraprofessionals as needed Supports administrators in the supervision and evaluation of special education professional and/or support staffIdentifies special education staffing needs in conjunction with building administrators through careful assessment of data programs and personnelConsistently reviews special education data to make informed decisions to improve student achievement Establishes effective relationships and communication with families of students with disabilitiesDevelops and maintains scheduling/servicing of special education students in conjunction with service providers and special education teachersParticipates in the design implementation and evaluation of specialized programs under the supervision of the Director Coordinates DESEs compliance review activities when appropriate for assigned caseloads as part of a System Audit or School Instructional ReviewReports to building staff on DESE initiatives/indicators audits and inquiries as assigned and appropriate to caseloadAssists the Special Education Department in the selection and administration of assessment tools to evaluate students functional abilities / present levels of performanceProvides actionable feedback to staff members on progress reports and evaluation assessments for accuracy and appropriatenessFosters collaboration among teachers and paraprofessionals through regular meetingsOrganizes and coordinates MCAS administration relative to accommodations of students with IEPs as well as those participating in an alternate assessmentDemonstrates ethical and professional behavior at all times and follow the policies and procedures as outlined by the school committee and district and provides guidance for ESY services with other members of the Special Education other duties at the discretion of the Director of Pupil Personnel Services
