Role purpose:
Support the smooth caring and professional operation of the BBIS Health & Well-Being Office. Working in the school health care office you will provide first-line first aid compassionate day-to-day care for students and staff and reliable administrative coordination that keeps our international learning community healthy safe and informed. BBIS is an English-medium values-driven international school; warmth discretion cultural sensitivity and calm under pressure are essential.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES
Student & staff care
- Provide immediate age-appropriate first aid and care; triage visits; monitor students resting in the Health Office; arrange safe return to class or pick-up from families.
- Support care plans for students with ongoing conditions (e.g. allergies diabetes asthma etc.) under direction of the School Nurse; help with documentation and parent communication.
- Independently care for students with ongoing conditions
- Support in distribution of medication to students as needed
- Encourage healthy habits and psycho-social well-being; signpost to counsellors and Primary and Secondary Principals/Team and Head of Boarding/Team when appropriate.
- Maintain regular communication with the local health office regarding the regulations and standards for hygiene and contagious illnesses in kindergartens and schools in Germany.
- Review all student medical information ahead of annual trips off campus.
Operations & administration
- Maintain accurate confidential electronic and paper records of visits treatments and incidents in line with BBIS data-protection expectations and German workplace first-aid record-keeping norms.
- Track stock levels; order and restock first-aid supplies hygiene items and emergency kits across campus and boarding as needed.
- Support communication with families (email/phone) in English (and ideally German).
- Record accident information for staff and students following the insurance procedures (insurance reports).
Health promotion & prevention- Help prepare and deliver age-appropriate health hygiene and wellbeing mini-campaigns (e.g. hand-washing sleep screen-time balance).
- Assist with immunisation verification and routine screenings administration under the direction of the School Nurse.
- Contribute to a welcoming inclusive Health Office that reflects BBISs mission of compassion inclusion and action.
Safety safeguarding & compliance- Uphold BBIS child-protection culture; escalate concerns promptly through agreed channels.
- Support first-aid readiness across campus (kit checks AED checks emergency contact lists signage etc).
- Follow BBIS policies and procedures (health & safety data protection/GDPR safeguarding).
YOUR QUALIFICATION
Required qualifications & checks
- Valid current First Aid certification from a recognised provider (DGUV-recognised/Erste-Hilfe or equivalent).
- Secondary school completion or equivalent; strong spoken and written English; professional discretion and confidentiality; German B2 level required
- Right to work in Germany and successful completion of standard school pre-employment checks.
Preferred (assets)
- Coursework or certification in a health-related field (e.g. medical assistant public health sports science nutrition).
- Mental Health First Aid certification (Germany: MHFA Ersthelfer or equivalent).
- German language skills; experience in schools youth work boarding or intercultural environments.
Core competencies- Calm compassionate student-centred approach; culturally responsive communication with children and adults.
- Judgement to triage and escalate appropriately; meticulous attention to detail in record-keeping.
- Team player who collaborates daily with the School Nurse and Boarding team.

- An extended certificate of conduct that must not be older than six months.
