In our manufacturing environment the Senior Cost Accountant is a trusted partner who helps drive smarter business decisions. This role goes beyond numbers youll work closely with operations finance and leadership to understand what drives costs identify opportunities for efficiency and ensure resources are being used wisely. From tracking raw materials to analyzing finished goods youll play a key role in shaping strategies that improve performance and strengthen profitability.
This position requires full-time on-site presence.
SENIOR COST ACCOUNTANT CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform the job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Product Costing:
Calculate and track the cost of manufactured products including Raw materials Direct labor and Factory overhead (utilities depreciation etc.).
Maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) and Routing Costs accurately in the ERP system (SAP).
Standard Cost Development & Maintenance:
Develop standard costs for each product or production process.
Annual review and update of standard costs based on actuals or changes in operations.
Analyze changes in production or procurement that impact costs.
Variance Analysis:
Support monthly quarterly and annual financial reviews.
Identify and explain variances between: Standard vs. Actual Costs Planned vs. Actual Material Usage Labor Efficiency (actual hours vs. standard hours) and Overhead Absorption Variances.
Prepare variance reports for operations and finance teams to support corrective actions.
Inventory Valuation & Control:
Monitor and reconcile inventory accounts (raw materials WIP finished goods).
Ensure proper valuation methods (FIFO weighted average etc.) are applied.
Participate in cycle counts and full physical inventory audits.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Support manufacturing budgets (material labor overhead).
Assist in long-term planning for capital expenditures and cost reduction strategies.
Cost Allocation:
Support the month end close process through the preparation and posting of journal entries and general ledger reconciliations.
Allocate indirect costs (e.g. utilities rent maintenance) across cost centers or product lines using cost drivers (e.g. machine hours labor hours).
ERP and Manufacturing System Support:
Maintain cost-related data in ERP systems (SAP).
Ensure integration of cost accounting with production purchasing and inventory modules.
Additional Duties:
Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting standards (e.g. GAAP IFRS).
Coordinate with external auditors during audits.
Process capital expenditures.
Collaborate with production purchasing and logistics teams.
Ad-hoc analysis as needed.
SENIOR COST ACCOUNTANT QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in Business Administration or financial/accounting with 3-5 years of business experience
Must have a working knowledge of United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP).
Must have the ability to engage business process owners in a direct yet professional manner thoroughly evaluate business processes and quickly identify potential control gaps.
Requires demonstrated skill in written and oral communications and interview skills.
Advanced Microsoft Excel PowerPoint skills and SAP ERP system.
Highest standards of accuracy and precision; highly organized. Articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to think creatively highly driven and self-motivated
The estimated salary range for this position is $100000 to $ pay is dependent on multiple factors such as skills experience and work location and is not typically at the top of the range.
