Krero m te tranga - About the role

TeHerenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Kaitaupua Hoa Tautoko - Peer Support Coordinator to join the Manawa Ora - Student Wellbeing team on a permanent part-time contract. We offer the opportunity to work from home once per fortnight.

Key responsibilities:

  • Recruit student wellbeing leaders in a timely manner who have suitable skills and experience to provide quality peer support.
  • Roster student wellbeing leaders to tasks and shifts taking into account availability and suitability.
  • Ensure all student wellbeing leaders are provided with training for their role and given quality training material.
  • Provide student wellbeing leaders with regular supervision development and connection opportunities.
  • Regularly monitor and continually improve the quality of the peer support programmes (including obtaining and analysing student feedback).
  • Provide student leaders with feedback support and problem solve issues as required.
  • Keep records of engagement including evaluation of programmes and events and provide regular reports to the Health and Wellbeing Promoter that assist with continuous improvement.
  • Compile content including student contributions to support the development of the Wellbeing Kete.

pmanawa - About you

Key requirements:

  • Available either 9am-12:45pm or 12:30pm-4:15pm Monday-Friday.
  • A current student or recent graduate of Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington in a related discipline (e.g. Psychology Sociology Health Science).
  • Experience in peer support telephone counselling or group facilitation.
  • Experience knowledge and awareness of the key wellbeing issues for students.
  • Knowledge and experience of Te Ao Mori and in working with Mori individuals whnau and communities.
  • Experience and interest in working with Pasifika rainbow gender diverse refugee background disabled people and international communities.
  • Experience or knowledge in health promotion brief interventions community education teaching or leading groups.
  • Understanding of the principles of peer support.
