Research Strategy & Services Division
The Research Strategy & Services Division (RSSD) was established to provide a cohesive expert and agile research support ecosystem for the University of Birmingham. Since 2022 the Division has evolved into a vibrant high-performing community that supports all aspects of research innovation and business engagement across the institution.
RSSD is at the forefront of delivering the Universitys ambitious research goals. Within RSSD the Research Ethics Governance & Integrity (REGI) team ensures that our research meets the highest standards of integrity ethics and compliance with regulatory requirements. The team fosters a culture where good research practice is embedded across the University enabling our researchers to work with confidence and credibility in an increasingly complex regulatory landscape.
Role Summary
The University of Birmingham sponsors one of the largest non-commercial clinical trials portfolios in the UK including a substantial portfolio of international trials. The Research Ethics Governance & Integrity Manager (REGIM) will be a senior team lead for the Research Ethics Governance and Integrity Team (REGI) in RSSD reporting to the Head of Research Governance and Integrity. They will be responsible for maintaining and improving processes to ensure that research ethics and governance applications are processed efficiently that ethics approval and insurance cover are obtained in a timely matter and that oversight is maintained throughout the life of the project including reporting and publication. A key responsibility will be ensuring that data held in the research ethics & governance databases / systems are robust and working in line with UoB requirements. The post holder will leverage their knowledge of research ethics governance and integrity requirements to collaborate with colleagues across the Universitys five Colleges to develop and implement guidance policies and procedures with the aim of ensuring safety of research participants and the integrity of our research data. This will include providing expert professional leadership for research ethics / sponsorship reviews and supporting team members as a senior team lead. This will entail working with senior staff such as Heads of College Directors of Research Directors of Operations and College Research Support Hubs to establish appropriate systems for the assurance of good research ethics and governance standards in each College. The role holder will attend senior level University Committees as needed e.g. the University Research Governance Ethics and Integrity Committee (RGEIC) Human Tissue Oversight Committee and Clinical Trials Oversight Committee to provide evidence for appropriate processes and standards. The post offers an interesting and diverse workload and an opportunity to help support cutting edge research.
