Job Description

Xcel Energy is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to join our Nuclear Organization specifically within the Performance Analytics department located in Minneapolis MN. This internship offers a unique hands-on opportunity to apply your academic knowledge in a real-world setting supporting initiatives that enhance the performance regulatory compliance and reliability of our nuclear fleet.


As an intern you will gain hands-on experience in data analytics dashboard development and performance reporting. Youll collaborate with engineers analysts and leadership to drive data-informed decision-making and process improvements. This role is ideal for students passionate about analytics technology and energy innovation.


You will also have the opportunity to:

  • Present your work to senior leadership.

  • Participate in intern networking events across Xcel Energy.

  • Develop professional skills in a collaborative and mission-driven environment.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards to visualize nuclear performance indicators.

  • Automate data collection and reporting processes using tools such as Power Query Python Power Automate SAP Business Intelligence Reporting.

  • Analyze event-based impacts on performance metrics and provide actionable insights.

  • Collaborate with engineers and analysts to improve data quality and reporting accuracy.

  • Present findings and dashboard updates to department leadership and stakeholders.

  • Support ad hoc data analysis projects to drive continuous improvement initiatives.

This position is for a June 1 2026 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internships initial term based on the candidates successful performance and Xcel Energys business needs.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Current student with Sophomore status or higher.

  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Data Science Computer Science Business Analytics Information Systems or a related field.

  • Ability to commute to the Minneapolis corporate office with the potential of hybrid work.

  • Availability to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours/week) / part time during the spring (up to 20 hours a week).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

  • Completion of at least two years of undergraduate coursework.

  • Proficiency or experience with data analytics tools (e.g. Power BI SQL Python Excel).

  • Strong analytical problem-solving and communication skills.

  • Interest in the energy sector or nuclear operations is a plus.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $17.00 to $27.20 per hour
