Our innovative program assists graduate nurses transition from student nurse to professional nurse through a variety of opportunities and an ongoing network of support. Specifically designed for graduates with an interest in pediatric adult cardiac or obstetric nursing this program introduces you to the realities of clinical practice. Group problem-solving critical thinking exercises and hands-on clinical applications will provide you with the tools and resources necessary to discover your full potential.

This accreditation means Texas Childrens Hospital Nurse Residency Program delivers the knowledge skills and professional behaviors new nurses need to deliver safe high-quality care.
Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing by December 2025 with your degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas required by January 30 2026
Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association required by January 30 2026
A personal mission statement - 500 words or less to include why you want to work at Texas Childrens and how your mission statement aligns to our mission and values.
1 letter of recommendation from a clinical instructor that addresses the applicants clinical judgment ability to apply nursing theory to practice and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities:
Perform and document assessments of the patient/family including bio-physical psychosocial developmental (age-appropriate) cultural spiritual and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner
Analyze situations anticipate potential problems and detect changes in patient status
Involve patient/family in the patients plan of care
Implement high quality cost effective patient care in conjunction with the patient/family
Evaluate and document patients response to the care provided and recognize the patients progress toward meeting the desired outcomes and discuss with the patient/family
Educate patient and family; assess patient/family learning needs capabilities preferences and readiness to learn prior to teaching
Demonstrate commitment to team; flexibility; professional interpersonal communication; critical thinking; and excellent customer service skills
Be accountable for managing time and resources effectively
Be accountable for maintaining professional development of self and participate in the development of others
Participate in achieving hospital / unit goals
Skills:
Knowledge of the principals of biological physical and social science
Ability to apply the nursing process: observe assess intervene evaluate care and counsel
Administration of medications or treatments
Administration supervision and evaluation of nursing practices policies and procedures
Developmental (age-appropriate) nursing practices
Ability to demonstrate positive and appropriate interpersonal skills Good resource and time management skills flexibility strong oral and written communication and ability to operate unit-specific equipment
