As an Elementary Placement Specialist you play a key role in supporting teacher certification programs partnering with Pk-12 schools to identify and arrange appropriate clinical field experiences for GVSU students ensuring GVSUs future teachers are well-prepared for the classroom.
Salary & Benefits:Minimum starting salary of $58000 commensurate with experience
Primary Duties:
- Identify and arrange appropriate placements of students in Pk-12 schools for their clinical field experiences (elementary general education undergraduate and graduate initial certification program students).
- Coordinate all communication regarding each students placement with schools students College of Education and Community Innovation (CECI) faculty/staff and College of Liberal Arts (CLAS) subject area faculty.
- Create communicate and maintain accurate student records using various communication systems contracts and data management systems.
- Advise and support current and prospective students in regards to admission and application requirements placement procedures and general advising about elementary initial teacher certification programs offered by CECI.
- Engage with Pk-12 schools to encourage administrators and teachers to partner with GVSU teacher apprentices and teacher interns.
- Coordinate communicate lead and facilitate all aspects of the elementary teacher apprenticeship and teacher internship application process including: intake review evaluation and notification of admission status each semester for CECIs undergraduate and GTC initial teacher certification programs.
- Create update and present information about CECI initial teacher certification programs policies and procedures to high schools groups current CECI classes student groups and organizations information sessions group advising sessions and new student orientations.
- Collaborate with CECI clinical field instructors and field directors to evaluate partnership placements each semester.
- Work closely with CECI faculty and CLAS professional advising team to collaboratively support student success.
- Support CECI recruitment and retention initiatives through participation in activities and functions designed to promote the CECIs initial teacher certification programs with PK-12 schools community partners and university events.
- Attend Office of Certification and Accreditation CECI and Field Director meetings.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelors degree in a related field
- PK-12 school experience
- Ability and willingness to work with statewide PK-12 schools (occasional evenings and/or weekends required)
- Knowledge of current Michigan Department of Education teacher certification requirements
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate on cross-functional teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Google drive applications
- Proficiency with student information systems web-based records and registration programs data management systems and comfort with learning new systems
- Effective communication organizational writing and interpersonal skills
- Excellent critical thinking problem solving and multitasking skills
- Strong collaborative skills with a commitment to excellent customer service
Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Masters degree in Education or related field
- Pk-12 school administrative leadership experience
- Experience in higher education
- Experience in recruitment and project management
