POSITION SUMMARY Provides professional nursing care based on current Ambulatory Care standards American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) and Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) during the pre-operative post-operative and transfer of patient care to the receiving unit. The nursing role will focus preoperative and pre-procedure care along with post-operative and post-procedure care as well as other outpatient services This includes the use of the nursing process to provide care for a broad range of outpatient services related to medical and oncology patients; procedure patients surgical patients including but not limited to blocked patients emergency/inpatient add on cases Phase II recovery; and gastroenterology patients. Included in this care is the use of the nursing process through assessment of patient needs development of a plan to meet those needs implementation of nursing interventions and evaluations of the effectiveness of the nursing care and other treatment measures to achieve optimal patient outcomes on discharge for the neonate through geriatric age population. EDUCATION Completion of an accredited registered nurse program required. Proof of successful completion of EKG course preferred. Knowledge Skills Abilities: 1. Understanding of ASPAN standards of care. 2. Understanding of AORN standards of care. 3. Ability to recognize cardiac arrhythmias and life-threatening emergency situations and takes appropriate actions. 4. The ability to utilize critical thinking skills to provide safe patient care in a fast paced environment. 5. Effectively functions as a team member and a liaison between patients and staff. 6. Supports and encourages harmonious communication skills. 7. Possesses strong verbal non-verbal and written communication skills. 8. Communicates in a highly professional manner at all times. 9. Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing will ill people; uses tact sensitivity sound judgment and a professional attitude when relating with patients families and co-workers at all times. License/Certification/Registration: 1. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania. 2. Meets the American Heart Association s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years. 3. Meets the American Heart Association s standards for Healthcare Provider Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and renews ACLS every two years. 4. Meets the American Heart Association s standards for Healthcare Provider Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and renews PALS every two years.
