The core mission for this role is to act as the primary strategic link between the commercial insurance business and the technology development teams. You will be tasked with translating complex business challenges into elegant efficient and scalable technology solutions. This isnt a maintenance role; you will be at the forefront of modernizing legacy systems re-engineering core processes and ensuring that the technology roadmap delivers a tangible competitive advantage. A top performer in this role will fundamentally improve how the business operates through technology.
Performance Objectives for Year One
Success in this role will be measured by your ability to achieve the following key outcomes within the first 12 months:
- Lead the Core Underwriting System Modernization Project: Take ownership of the business analysis workstream for the companys flagship project to upgrade its commercial underwriting platform. Within 9 months you will deliver a complete and validated set of business requirements and functional specifications ensuring the solution is aligned with both immediate business needs and long-term architectural strategy.
- Re-engineer a Critical Business Process: Proactively identify a key area for improvement within the commercial policy lifecycle (e.g. claims intake endorsements or renewals). You will lead a cross-functional team to map the current state design a streamlined future state and present a compelling business case for automation that gets green-lit for development.
- Establish a High-Fidelity Requirements Framework: Overhaul the existing requirements-gathering process. By month six you will implement and champion a new standardized framework for engaging with stakeholders that demonstrably improves the clarity of requirements reduces ambiguity and minimizes development rework.
- Become the Subject Matter Expert for Business/IT Integration: Within your first year establish yourself as the go-to expert for the commercial insurance domain within the IT department. Your deep understanding of business processes and system capabilities will enable you to effectively mentor junior analysts and guide technical teams in making more informed development decisions.
Profile for Success
To achieve these objectives you will need to provide evidence of the following:
A demonstrated track record of leading the analysis for complex enterprise-scale software projects within the
non-life/short-term commercial insurance industry.
Proven experience in successfully translating high-level business problems into detailed functional specifications process maps and use cases.
Experience in business process re-engineering where you have taken a legacy process and successfully redesigned it for greater efficiency or automation.
Exceptional stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and align diverse groups from senior business executives to software developers.
Core Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the Short-Term Commercial insurance domain is essential.
- A minimum of 7 years of dedicated experience as a Business Analyst or Systems Analyst.
