Job Description
The Alaska Court System is accepting applications from compassionate individuals to become Court Visitors in Anchorage to monitor existing cases.
The starting hourly rate of pay is $45.00. After one year of successful employment the rate of pay may increase to $50.00 per hour. Scheduled hours will vary by caseload. Part-time or Full-time option.
These are contracted positions with no benefits.
The ACS is required by Alaska Statute to provide court visitor services. The ACS contracts with individuals across the state to provide these services. A Court Visitor is appointed when a petition for adult guardianship or conservatorship is filed to investigate the involved person and their circumstances and recommend to the court an appropriate resolution.
Court Visitors are reappointed every three (3) years to review and report to the court regarding existing guardianship and conservatorship cases.
There is a mandatory 10-hour training that is reimbursed at the ACS training rate however given that Court Visitors are contractors there is some unreimbursed training and administrative tasks.
A valid drivers license is required. Mileage reimbursement and parking provided if needed.Ideal candidates should possess the following knowledge skills and abilities. Please detail these in the required letter of interest.
- Good listening skills friendliness patience and tact.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with a wide variety of individuals including people with significant physical and mental impairments and varying socio-economic backgrounds.
- Willingness to complete timely case reports on forms provided by the court.
- Ability to remain objective and non-judgmental in making reports to the court.
- Ability to hold information in confidence.
- Strong time management skills.
- Strong desire to help people and to further the goals of the monitoring project.
- Willingness to provide own transportation.
- Ability to travel statewide is required.

Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelors degree in social work psychology human services or other related medical or mental health field preferred; or business or legal degree with experience/knowledge in the health and social services field.
Work experience in the above fields can be substituted for the Bachelors degree on a year for year basis.

WORK HISTORY

EDUCATION
If post-secondary education is required to meet the Minimum Qualifications you must fill in the Education and Training section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree please indicate the number of credit hours earned in the Degree Obtained field. Copies of academic transcripts are required.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be required to meet the Minimum Qualifications as outlined above. Unfortunately we cannot always interview all applicants. If your application is considered not qualified you will be sent a notice within two weeks after the closing date for this recruitment. If you believe your application was improperly disqualified you may appeal this decision to the Human Resources Director at 820 West 4th Avenue Anchorage AK 99501-2005 within five workdays from the date the notice is mailed to you. Qualified applications will be forwarded to the hiring supervisor.
A background check will be conducted prior to an employment offer being made.
