Job Description
Reports to: Water Distribution Crew Leader
Classification: Non-Exempt / Full-Time
Salary: $30.83 - $32.22
Grade: 4
Schedule: First Shift / Monday - Friday
General Description:
Under general supervision inspects maintains repairs and replaces water control devices related to delivering the water supply to area residential commercial and industrial properties; performs other duties as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Inspects maintains repairs and replaces valves hydrants water mains and water meters to ensure proper working order.
- Sets removes turns on and turns off water meters; repairs and tests city-owned meters.
- Uses problem solving techniques when working with customers to determine cause of unusually high or low water bills.
- Reads meters and responds to service calls for residential commercial and industrial properties.
- Operates various power and hand tools including cut off saws magnetic locators screwdrivers shovels pipe wrench drills etc.
- Performs Confined Space Duties.
- Performs work zone safety procedures.
- Utilizes and wears proper protective safety gear and equipment.
- Cleans maintains loads drives and performs minor repairs and maintenance on City vehicles as directed.
- Locates underground utilities.
- Cleans and maintains department equipment and work area.
Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Education and Training:
Equivalent of a High School Diploma
License or Certifications:
Possession of a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
- Or ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire
Possession of a Class D Illinois EPA Water License
- Or the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire
Knowledge and Abilities:
The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.
Knowledge of:
- Knowledge of the function of basic hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of personal computer functions.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safe work practices.
- Knowledge of basic problem-solving techniques.
Ability to:
- Ability to ensure safe work environment.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to read and understand utility maps.
- Ability to work in inclement weather conditions.
- Ability to effectively communicate with those contacted throughout the course of the workday.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other departments agencies employees supervisors and the public.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
There is frequent need to stand walk sit climb twist bend stoop talk or hear use hands to finger lift up to and over fifty (50) pounds and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. Position is subject to overtime emergency call out and working in inclement weather. The City of East Moline promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing.
