Job Description

Job Summary
The Director of Facilities and Maintenance oversees the management maintenance and
operational efficiency of all buildings and grounds. This role is responsible for ensuring that
facilities are safe well-maintained and compliant with regulatory standards. The Director also leads capital projects including renovations repairs and new construction and works closely with staff and contractors to ensure all facility-related initiatives align with the mission and goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Facilities Management and Maintenance:
o Manage the maintenance repair and safety of all buildings grounds and
facilities.
o Develop and implement a preventative maintenance plan to address routine
facility upkeep emergency repairs and long-term capital improvements.
o Ensure all facilities comply with state and federal regulations including health
safety and building codes.
o Coordinate with external vendors and service providers to manage ongoing
facility repairs and ensure cost-effective solutions.
o Prepare facilities for all events liturgical services and special activities
collaborating with leadership to meet the needs of each event.
Project Management and Capital Improvements:
o Lead capital projects including facility upgrades renovations and new
construction ensuring all projects are completed on time and within budget.
o Collaborate with the leadership and finance team to develop project budgets
secure necessary approvals and manage financial resources effectively.
o Oversee all aspects of project planning from initial design to construction
completion acting as the primary liaison with contractors architects and
engineers.
o Ensure regular updates on project progress are communicated to leadership and
the finance council.
Safety and Security Management:
o Oversee security systems alarms and access control measures to ensure the
safety of facilities.
o Develop and enforce safety protocols including emergency preparedness plans
and safety training for staff and volunteers.
o Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of all properties to identify and
address potential hazards.
Vendor and Contract Management:
o Negotiate and manage contracts with vendors and service providers for facility
maintenance repairs and capital projects.
o Ensure vendor compliance with policies and maintain high standards for service
delivery.
o Regularly review vendor performance and address any issues that arise to ensure
effective service and cost efficiency.
Environmental and Energy Efficiency:
o Implement energy-saving initiatives and environmentally sustainable practices
across all properties.
o Monitor utility consumption and manage resource use to reduce costs and
improve efficiency.
o Explore opportunities for green building practices and sustainability programs
where applicable.
Collaboration and Communication:
o Work closely with leadership to align facility management activities with the
mission.
o Foster a collaborative working relationship with maintenance staff and volunteers
to support events programs and operational needs.
o Provide regular communication to parish leadership regarding facility needs
project updates and ongoing maintenance activities.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
and facilities simultaneously.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively
with staff volunteers contractors and vendors.
Proficiency in project management software and tools as well as strong budgeting and
financial oversight abilities.
Personal Attributes
Practicing Catholic with a commitment to supporting the mission and values of the
Catholic Church.
Detail-oriented proactive and capable of working independently and as part of a team.
Collaborative and approachable with a strong commitment to ensuring the safety
security and functionality of parish facilities.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelors degree in Facilities Management Project Management Engineering or a
related field preferred.
5 years of experience in facility management project management or construction
oversight ideally in a parish school or non-profit setting.
Proven experience managing capital projects and overseeing facility maintenance across
multiple sites.
Travel Required
Frequent local travel throughout the Archdiocese.
Additional Requirements
Must agree upon acceptance of an offer of employment with the Archdiocese of Detroit

Must demonstrate understanding respect and support for Catholic Church teaching
mission and values.

Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding any archdiocesan information gained within
the Archdiocese of Detroit especially highly sensitive material such as protected Personally
Identifiable Information and financial information.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift and carry objects or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted.
Regularly required to stand walk bend stoop and perform repetitive motions during
cleaning and groundskeeping tasks.
Ability to operate tools and equipment including lawnmowers snow blowers and
custodial machines.
Work in both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to varying weather
conditions.
