Location: 202 S. Michigan Street Suite 801 South Bend IN
Time Commitment: 6 10 hours per week
Duration: 812 weeks (flexible based on school calendar)
Overview
The South Bend Human Rights Commission (HRC) is offering a part-time internship opportunity for high school students interested in civil rights social justice and public service. This unpaid internship is designed to provide early exposure to local government operations and human rights advocacy.

Key Responsibilities
Assist with organizing and filing intake forms and case documentation
Support community outreach efforts including event preparation and material distribution
Conduct basic research on civil rights topics and local ordinances
Help maintain digital records and update internal databases
Shadow staff during commission meetings and public forums
Participate in team discussions and contribute ideas for youth engagement
Organize archives
Qualifications
Current high school student (junior or senior preferred)
Interest in human rights law government global affairs or community service
Parental/guardian consent and school approval (if required for credit)
Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism
Skills & Attributes
Strong communication and organizational skills
Willingness to learn and take initiative
Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word Outlook etc.)
Respect for diverse backgrounds and perspectives
