Job Summary: Under the direction of theprincipal this position will be responsible for providing guidance to students regarding a wide variety of career information and materials; communicating with students faculty parents and community representatives concerning career planning and college entrance.

Responsibilities:

  • Make him/herself available to all students seeking guidance and counseling services.
  • Advocate on behalf of the student and/or his/her family. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.
  • Facilitate outreach efforts to provide services to students parents/guardians and staff.
  • Schedule students in appropriate courses.
  • Consult with students parents and staff to assist students with academic/career planning.
  • Assist students with scholarship college entrance and financial aid applications.
  • Serve as the School to Work Education for Employment Tech-Prep and District Assessment Coordinator (DAC).
  • Schedule and coordinate Student Assessment Tests as well as the ACT PSAT SAT etc.
  • Compile and submit data for the Course Offering Report.
  • Obtains organizes files and displays guidance materials; catalog and prepare for use by students; maintain displays and bulletin boards.
  • Plans organizes develops and implements career events and publications.
  • Maintains current lists and bulletins concerning scholarships and other financial aids available; provide information concerning specialized scholarships and assistance in completing application forms.
  • Develops and maintains a current and comprehensive occupational library including information on careers and career clusters employment prospects and trends and employment requirements and opportunities; obtain and circulate current college catalogs.
  • Prepares letters flyers mailers and other materials to publicize Career Center services resources and speaker programs.
  • Provides information concerning scholastic aptitude and achievement tests; assists students with applications and scheduling; distributes test results as appropriate.
  • Assists students with Career Center materials and equipment.
  • Maintains a current inventory of Career Center equipment and materials; assists in determining purchase priorities.
  • Member of School RTI Team.
  • Guides process for purchase of additional intervention materials
  • Promotes the use of Tier I classroom interventions - researched-based interventions in Tier IIand Tier IIIIntensive Level.
  • Plans and delivers ongoing staff development for teachers and paraprofessionals with respect to RTI.
  • Implements interventions for individual students or small groups:
    • Provides a clear definition of the student problem(s)
    • Selects appropriate evidence-based intervention strategies or programs
    • Uses data to determine if the intervention is effective
    • Measures success of the intervention to ensure that it is implemented with integrity.
  • Aids teachers and guidance counselors to structure and implement interventions to maximize potential success.
  • Collects information from a variety of sources to better understand a student problem:
    • Creates time-series graphs as visual displays to show student progress
    • Finds the best methods for estimating peer performance and setting goals for rate of student progress
    • Applies methods of data analysis to progress-monitoring data to determine if the student has made adequate growth with the intervention.
  • Establishes and assists students in understanding their choices for post-secondary education and career training; maintaining liaisons with community leaders and business.
  • Provides information and/or direction to students parents teachers and administrators about career and educational services available to eligible students.
  • Develops and monitors program data and reports; and promotes programs with students staff and parents.
  • Connect students parents/guardians and staff with specialized referral agencies. Understand evaluate and interpret academic performance data. Interpret information about students to the student their parents/guardians and staff. Implement individual and group counseling methods that are appropriate.
  • Conduct career and educational planning activities.
  • Participate in in-service activities promoted by the district.
  • Submit required reports promptly and accurately.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • Five years experience in a Secondary School setting is preferred.
    • Career and occupational resources trends and opportunities.
    • College entrance requirements and procedures.
    • Correct English usage grammar spelling punctuation and vocabulary.
    • Modern office practices procedures and equipment.
    • Record-keeping techniques.
    • Telephone techniques and etiquette.
    • Basic research methods.
    • College admission requirements financial aid requirements and training necessary for future careers.
    • Student learning styles.
    • RTI theory and practice.
  • Education:
    • Bachelors degree required.
    • Masters preferred.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Must meet the current RI Department of Education requirements and or certifications.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Must provide a current national background check without disqualifying results at time of hire.
