Job Description

The Peggy Chung Thrash Memorial Program is a trauma-based partner program of Wissahickon Charter Schools Fernhill Campus. The program supports 10 K-3rd grade students (7 from the Fernhill Campus 3 from the Awbury Campus) who have underlying traumatic experiences that lead to disruptive behaviors in school. Referrals end in 3rd grade but students can remain in the program until the end of their 5th grade year. The program is designed to help the students address and cope with underlying traumatic experiences by supporting the student in building skills to calm down when triggered and to increase communication social and problem solving skills in order to maximize their student success.

Students will work with a trauma-informed psychotherapist weekly in school for the duration of the school year and will attend a day-long equestrian therapy experience at a horse farm in Malvern PA under the supervision of equestrian therapists.

The psychotherapist is an independent contractor and not an employee of Wissahickon Charter School.

Responsibilities & Qualifications Include:

  • Supports the mission of Wissahickon Charter School.
  • Provides psychotherapy in the school to up to 7 students on a weekly basis and occasionally observes them in a classroom setting.
  • Partners with the teacher family and school counselors in order to support the student.
  • Psychotherapist must be available to meet with students during school hours in the school building ideally on Mondays and/or Fridays.
  • Must be comfortable connecting with families of the students at least once a month.
  • Must be available for an equestrian trip in the Spring.
  • Prior equestrian therapy/experience a plus.
  • At least 2 years experience working with urban youth is preferred.
  • Reads referral material and becomes familiar with the childs history and presenting issues.
  • Abides by current laws and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for providing and maintaining up-to-date clearances.
  • Develops effective and timely treatment goals with measurable objectives.
  • Maintains appropriate records.
  • Masters degree in social work or a counseling-related field.
  • Licensed preferred.
  • Experience in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy preferred.
