Job Summary

QUALIFICATIONS:Masters Degree in Teaching of English Language Learners English as a Second or Additional LanguageMassachusetts license as Teacher of English Language Learners or ESLPreferred experience: Successful experience teaching English Language Learners at the high school level (or older) particularly those who have significantly limited or interrupted formal educationREPORTS TO:Pupil Services DirectorJOB GOAL:To assist English Language Learning students with development of English skills to fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional and psychological growth and :The position requires activities that include talking and listening to staff children and parents. Several hours a day may be spent standing. Other physical activities include frequent walking and climbing of stairs. ENVIRONMENTCONDITION:The English Language Learner Teacher is required to work indoors. This individual may be exposed to ultra-violet lights as are found in computer monitors copying equipment or other equipment. This individual may be exposed to chemicals as are used in copying equipment printer ribbons English Language Learner Teacher may be required to work out-of-doors to perform some required duties and may be exposed to pollens and weather conditions that exist outside of the YEAR:Based on Gateway Teachers Association ContractSALARY:Based on Gateway Teachers Association ContractPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:ASSESSMENT/EVALUATIONPerforms ELL assessments required by the state for English Language Learners and develops a written report including recommendations for the ELL the ELL students English language needs and plans instruction according to individual student needs for growth in English language including reading writing speaking and state mandated ELL testing. Keeps up to date with changes in mandated testing and required training in order to be able to administer assessments. Maintains student files with testing results and copies of progress reports. CONSULTATIONInterprets the results of the ELL testing to teachers and administration and assures teacher understanding of implications of results for successful teaching styles in the parent conferences with regard to students needs and progress. Encourages parental involvement in students education and ensures effective communication with students and parents. Sends files out for translation as needed. Make provisions for being available to students parents and school personnel for education related purposes outside the education day when required or requested to do so under reasonable meetings regarding students receiving additional services as needed (IEP meetings progress meetings parent meetings) when appropriate. If not in attendance will prepare a written report in advance of the meeting if information to classroom teachers to assure understanding of the English Language Learner skills and general and specific instructional objectives for individual students and sets criteria for measurement of same consistent with general with individual and student groups as determined by ELL testing and state instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated accurate and complete records of students work progress parent and teacher classroom teachers in providing individual learning styles for English Language Learner children in the regular program and provide suggestions for methods which may be used successfully. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND DUTIESMaintain professional licenseWorks with knowledge of Massachusetts and Federal regulatory regular training as required in order to administer EL assessments Keeps current with new developments in the field. Participates in in-service training and maintains professional skills in the field. Attend and participate in faculty a share of the non-teaching duties of for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading workshops seminars conferences local in-service courses and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher such other duties or responsibilities which may be assigned by the Pupil Services Director or Building Principal.
